[Bug 305698] [NEW] No Network on Ubuntu 8.10 AMD64 after install
Public bug reported: Computer: HP Pavilion DV7-1120EO Distribution: Ubuntu 8.10 AMD64 With a fresh install (no upgrade) am I not getting any network to function. On the same machine I have also a fresh install of Fedora 10 whith both wired and wireless network functioning. The computer is behind a Belkin Router (as the one I am using now) and network manager reports after "Requesting a network address from the wired network..." that "The network connection has been disconnected" I have googled and searched the forums to no avail. I have not yet tried to 32 bit version on the affected machine but I suspect it will work since I have never had a major problem with it. The DV7 can be used as test bench since I am not in a hurry getting it up and running and my goal is to get UbuntuStudio 64 working on it (I have the same fault with UbuntuStudio 64) ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- No Network on Ubuntu 8.10 AMD64 after install https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/305698 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 221499] Re: RTL8111/8168B does not work in Hardy
I can confirm this bug on my HP Pavilion DV7-1120EO. The hard fix described in: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/208012 is not acceptable. How do I follow that procedure without a working network? In order to compile I need to apt-get linux-headers (or whatever) but this is impossible. This fault is both in 8.04 and 8.10 both for i386 and AMD64. Fedora 10 works however. -- RTL8111/8168B does not work in Hardy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/221499 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I went back and tested Fedora 10 and it was only wifi that worked so they have the same problem. [Bug 306067] [NEW] USB HD, ehci_hcd reverts to ohci_hcd under x86_64
Public bug reported: I have a few Western Digital USB HD that works properly under regular i686 GNU/Linux kernel. Now under Ubuntu 8.10 AMD64 ( 2.6.27-9-generic #1 SMP Thu Nov 20 22:15:32 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux) they are not working flawlessy. By this I mean that the normal ehci_hcd driver works with the device properly under i686 kernel but under 64 bit kernel it reverts to ohci_hcd which is much slower. [Bug 103273] Re: booting HP Pavilion tx1020 laptop requires noapic kernel option
I am seeing this problem on Feisty, without the noapic boot option the PC will not start. It is a HP Pavilion DV9094EA and installed using the x86 image. I am in the process of DL the Gutsy AMD64 image and will try to boot into the live option. This did not work on Feisty. Just tested the Gutsy DL and it also did not come up in live mod. However when I went to reboot my Feisty i removed the noapic option just to see where it stopped (I did not know about the kernel logs earlier) and this time it worked I can confess that it was a while back i tried without the noapic option. [Bug 1311316] Re: After locking screen there is no input field to type password for unlock
I have had this bug since I installed 16.04 (Not an upgrade) It does not happen often but when it happens it is always when returning to my normal user id after having switched to another user id. So basically I click upper right corner and selects another user, say user2, when I am logged in as user1. When I am finished with user2 I just log out and am normally returned to the login window where I can login as user1 again and the session is resumed. When the bug strikes it is not possible to login and only a switch to TTYx and executing a $ sudo service lightdm restart will give me back a working login page but I have to login twice before I get access and then is of course all work in the old session gone. nvidia proprietary drivers and dual head. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1311316 Title: After locking screen there is no input field to type password for unlock To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/1311316/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1432413] Re: Synaptic Touchpad xevents are hijacked under X
I have now tried to get 15.04 up and working properly on a new disk but did not succeed and I have no intention being part of troubleshooting problems with 15.04 since I plan on staying on 14.04 for at least two more years. I do want to help troubleshooting this problem and I have nothing against applying patches or building test kernels/drivers or whatever as long we can get the synaptic touchpad to be fully usable. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1432413 Title: Synaptic Touchpad xevents are hijacked under X To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1432413/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I have to get another disk to test with vivid so it will take a few days but my plan is to keep the 14.02 LTS for another few years and for the moment does the problem occur only after a few minutes with an active program on the desktop (if all windows are minimized does the problem not occur) so it is not difficult to recreate it for troubleshooting purpose.

[Bug 931967] Re: Corrupted graphics after the login until the unity launcher appears
I see exactly this on a fresh install of 14.04.2 LTS where I first installed the server image in order for it to pick up my Raid configuration and afterwards installed the ubuntu-desktop. The corrupted area covers aproximately 30% of the lower part of the right screen. I am using the nvidia properitary driver (version 331.113 from nvidia-331 , Card GeForce 9400 GT) for a dual screen setup and it is only the right screen that is affected for approximately 5 seconds before the screen becomes normal. [Bug 1432413] [NEW] Synaptic Touchpad xevents are hijacked under X
Public bug reported: Synaptic Touchpad xevents are hijacked under X11. I have a problem with the synaptic touch-pad on my Acer Aspire that started around a week ago. The problem can be described as that there is a massive amount of xevents being generated and appearing to originate from the touch-pad even though the touch-pad is not used. I have tested the HW which seems to work fine. The test performed is to start a terminal session (Ctrl + Alt + 2) before the fault occurs and check the xevents by running ~$ sudo evtest /dev/input/eventX where the X to use is found in /proc/bus/input/devices and found by running ~$ cat /proc/bus/input/devices |grep mouse No matter how much the touch-pad is used will the console show the corresponding events which indicates that HW and driver works OK as long it is not under X When the problem has occurred (in Desktop mode) is it easy (but inconvenient) to get back to normal by key combo Fn+F7 twice, turn off touch-pad and then turn on again. And more, one can get unlucky in the sense that the generated events could click somewhere one do not want to click. During the problem is it impossible to use the mouse since it flies around (mostly going in a bottom to top of screen direction) but one can check the generated events using evtest again. How can I help troubleshooting the problem? [Bug 1432413] Re: Synaptic Touchpad xevents are hijacked under X
Ok I understand. Made a quick test inside VirtualBox with latest Wily image and at least got a working desktop but it is not suitable for testing this bug since VirtualBox is still running inside 14.04 Xorg plus we will not experience same type of race conditions inside VirtualBox as on real disk. I will make a new test on my second drive but I am not interested in working on Wily for troubleshooting this bug. The outcome will either be: 1) No problem on Wily (does not help me since I am staying on 14.04). One could maybe find out what has changed in order to narrow down the problem on 14.04. 2) Same problem on Wily -> somebody with knowledge will fix the bug and then maybe it is possible to backport fix back to 14.04.
