Just tested the Gutsy DL and it also did not come up in live mod. However when I went to reboot my Feisty i removed the noapic option just to see where it stopped (I did not know about the kernel logs earlier) and this time it worked.... I can confess that it was a while back i tried without the noapic option. I don't think it worked in July beginning Aug but whatever has changed since then has made it work. I will try the sleep and hibernate know.
