[Bug 469470] Re: proprietary nvidia driver does not work under karmic
I started experiencing something similar today after enabling Karmic proposed repositories and performing an upgrade. The upgrade pulled in updates for xserver. The updates seem to be related to the failsafe server. Reverting to the Karmic released versions of the xserver packages resolves the problem for me. I run Kubuntu and use kdm for my login manager. I also have Ubuntu desktop installed and sometimes use the gnome desktop but not gdm. However, gdm is installed. It almost looks like the failsafe server is attempting to startup and creating a conflict with kdm. If I cancel the low resolution mode dialog quickly enough, kdm is able to startup and everything is ok. I've attached my kdm log which shows the conflict with accessing the display. ** Attachment added: "kdm.log" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/36209046/kdm.log -- proprietary nvidia driver does not work under karmic https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/469470 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Problem appears to be that the facebook.py is expecting comments to be returned as a list and they are actually being returned as a dictionary. I have been able to fix the problem by changing the comment parsing loop to use values() for the dictionary. Here is the original code: if data.get("comments", 0): m["comments"] = [] for item in data["comments"]["comment_list"]: m["comments"].append({ "text": item["text"], "time": int(mx.DateTime.DateTimeFrom(item["time"]).gmtime()), "sender": self._sender(profiles[item["fromid"]]), }) Changing the for line as follows corrects the problem: if data.get("comments", 0): m["comments"] = [] for item in data["comments"]["comment_list"].values(): m["comments"].append({ "text": item["text"], "time": int(mx.DateTime.DateTimeFrom(item["time"]).gmtime()), "sender": self._sender(profiles[item["fromid"]]), }) ** Attachment added: "modified /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/gwibber/microblog/facebook.py file to correct facebook message retrieval problem" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/49241548/facebook.py -- facebook is always a day or two OLD https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/572011 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 414572] Re: KDE Microblogs plasmoid does not show friend timelines nor public timeline
After performing an apt-get -compile on the source package, the resulting plasma-widgets-addons deb package contains a plasma_applets_microblog.so that doesn't work. The packaged library has been stripped as part of the package build process. However, the shared library built in the output directory of the compile works correctly. The difference between these would seem to the stripping process that removes the debug info from the shared libraries. Perhaps, there is something not defined properly for the stripping of this library. -- KDE Microblogs plasmoid does not show friend timelines nor public timeline https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/414572 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 414572] Re: KDE Microblogs plasmoid does not show friend timelines nor public timeline
Additional information. It seems to have something to do with the kubuntu_02_microblog_default_configuration.diff. This diff appears in revision 29 of the lp:~kubuntu-members/kdeplasma-addons/ubuntu branch. The following code in the downloadHistory method was changed: +-if (m_includeFriends) { +-query = QString("TimelineWithFriends:%...@%2"); +-} else { + query = QString("Timeline:%...@%2"); + } The new code is: ++if (m_password.isEmpty()) { ++query = QString("NoAuth:%...@%2"); ++} else if ( m_includeFriends ) { + query = QString("Timeline:%...@%2"); + } The result is that an empty password results in a NoAuth query, If Include Friends is checked, the query is Timeline when it should be TimelineWithFriends. If Include Friends isn't checked, then no query is set. The code should probably be changed to: ++if (m_password.isEmpty()) { ++query = QString("NoAuth:%...@%2"); ++} else if ( m_includeFriends ) { + query = QString("TimelineWithFriends:%...@%2"); +-} else { + query = QString("Timeline:%...@%2"); + } There also seems to be a bug in setting the Configure... button state. It isn't being cleared. The setAuthRequired method seems to be used to turn this button on and off. My best guess is that the method should be called in the dataUpdated method when the update query was successful. -- KDE Microblogs plasmoid does not show friend timelines nor public timeline https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/414572 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kdeplasma-addons in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 414572] Re: KDE Microblogs plasmoid does not show friend timelines nor public timeline
It would really be nice for this bug to be fixed prior to the release of Karmic. Kubuntu Karmic is being advertised as social from the start. The twitter support is a integral part of Kubuntu. I've posted the code that fixes the problem a couple of times. Can someone give me some advice on how I can get the fixed code included in the Karmic kdeplasma_addons package. The file that needs to be changed is 02_microblog_default_configuration.diff. The query string in the Microblog::downloadHistory method isn't getting set properly. Currently, the only query strings that are ever set are "NoAuth:" and "Timeline:". The "Timeline:" string is getting set incorrectly. It is getting set after a check to see if include friends is turned on. The correct string for include friends is "TimelineWithFriends:". As mentioned, the current code only sets one of two strings. No query string is set if include friends is not selected in the configuration. This was the cause of a plasma desktop crash that has since been addressed in the base KDE source. That fix prevented the crash, but had no effect on the display of friend tweets. -- KDE Microblogs plasmoid does not show friend timelines nor public timeline https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/414572 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kdeplasma-addons in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

The whole point of the lens is to provide a single point of entry to the system. You hit super, start typing, and hit enter when you choice becomes the first one in the list. The rest of this post is going to be pretty much a rant, but that is because of how frustrating the effects of these decisions are on the useability of the system from an experienced users perspective. You have broken my system yet again. Please, Please, Please pick with a direction and stick with it. I DON'T WANT TO COMPLETELY RELEARN MY WORKFLOW WITH EACH NEW RELEASE. STOP IT. I have been running a pre-release version of Precise for some time. This behavior just recently changed. This should not be a last minute addition to a Long Term Release. It basically means that if we don't like it, we have not input to get it changed. Another F-U from the Ubuntu Design gods. These changes need to be made available to the community at large well ahead of feature freezes and release candidates. The initial write up of this bug indicates that some of these commands are available in the HUD. If so, I can't find them. Even if they are available there it means that you have to learn yet another interface to use them. There should not be 15 different interfaces that the user needs to learn to use in order to accomplish things on the system. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/973181 Title: Dash - System commands presence confuse the definition of App To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/973181/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I'm not able to perform the bisect. I restarted from scratch and tried to build the most recent kernel before attempting any bisect operation. The build is running on my computer, but it is going quite slow. I let it run for 1.5 hours the first night before I had to stop it to shutdown. I then restarted it the next night. It continued from where it had stopped initially, but after more than 2 hours I had to stop it again so I don't know the exact time it takes to build, but it is pushing 4 hours at this point. At this rate, I wouldn't be able to do more than one bisect a day. The original bisect status showed over 850 commits that needed to be bisected. [Bug 953634] Re: Super key doesn't bring up Dash
No, it doesn't appear when releasing the Super key. It doesn't matter how long I hold the key down. I've tried quickly tapping as well as holding it down till the Launcher appears and then release the key. It never shows. I've found the launcher Super->Tab sequence that goes through the Launcher icons. Hitting Super->Tab selects the Dash icon and brings up the Dash. However, the Super key is supposed to bring the Dash up by itself. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/953634 Title: Super key doesn't bring up Dash To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/953634/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Additional update. Tonight I installed new updates and Unity 5.6.0-0ubuntu3 was installed. Now, the first time I press/release the Super key after login, the Dash is brought up. [Bug 953089] Re: Unity 5.6: key bindings (such as Super) don't work on empty workspace
In my case, I can get the Dash to come once using Super if I wait for all processing to settle down after login. But I can't get Super to bring up the Dash after that. In fact, Super won't close the Dash. I have to use ESC to close the Dash. I'm running System Load Indicator in the panel and I can see that pressing Super does result in a spike in CPU usage. Steps to reproduce problem: Login. Wait till System Load Indicator shows that system is essentially idle. Press/Release the Super key. Dash is displayed Select an application to run or close with ESC Press/Relese the Super key NO Dash is displayed, but System Load indicates CPU spike. It doesn't matter whether there is an application visible or whether only the Desktop is visible. The Dash doesn't come up on the Super key. I have the Launcher set to Auto Hide and I have reduced the size of the Launcher icons to better fit my Netbook screen (1024x600). [Bug 916799] [NEW] Blank line in previously installed packagedescription causes 12.04 upgrade failurt
Public bug reported: While attempting to upgrade from 11.10 to 12.04 the version of dpkg used by Ubuntu was upgraded. The new version was unable to parse my /var/lib/dpkg/status and /var/lib/dpkg/available files. Under 11.10, I had installed a package from Lexmark for a printer driver that had a blank line in the package description field. The old version of dpkg was apparently able to parse the file with the blank line. However, when the new version encountered the files. any further package updates failed and the update process proceeded to the cleanup/reboot phase. My system was usable following the reboot, and I was able to find the blank lines and manually edit them to allow dpkg to start working again. There were some broken packages as a result of the failed upgrade. I was able to fix them using apt-get install -f. I was then able to complete the upgrade with an apt-get dist-upgrade. There may need to be some checks added to the upgrade procedure to prevent upgrade failures when a package description has a blank line. The package is provided by Lexmark for their printers. It is licensed by them and I'm not sure I'm allowed to post it here. The version I had installed no longer appears to be available on their support site. I could probably send the file to you directly, but I don't think I'm allowed to post it on the site. [Bug 923605] [NEW] Wireless network card unable to connect to router with 3.2.0-12 kernel
Public bug reported: Tonight I updated my 12.04 install with the latest kernel image (linux- image-3.2.0-12-generic). After a reboot, my network card couldn't connect to my wireless router. Tried rebooting a couple of times without success. Removed network definition and tried re-adding but couldn't get it to work. Booting back into the 3.2.0-11 kernal allows the network card to connect. Problem seems to be with the DHCP. Dhclient is unable to get a response to a DHCPDISCOVER or a DHCPREQUEST call. [Bug 927441] [NEW] Far left character in panel (and launcher popups) distorted
Public bug reported: After one of the recent Precise updates, I have noticed that the first character in the Unity panel is distorted. It almost looks like the character is being partially offset by a couple of pixels. A similar issue shows up in the popups on icons in the Unity launcher when hovering over the icon. The distortion is also visible on the window close icon when the mouse is on the Unity Panel and the icons and menu are displayed. I have screen shots of each distortion attached. [Bug 929303] [NEW] Launcher auto hide behavior broken in 5.2.0-0ubuntu3
Public bug reported: Version 5.2.0-0ubuntu3 broke the auto hide behavior of the launcher. With auto hide turned on, the launcher will only appear when "pushing" the mouse against the left edge. It is no longer displayed if there are no windows in the launcher area of the screen. If auto hide is turned off, full screen windows will not be full screen. They will be narrowed by the width of the launcher. This is a serious regression. The auto hide behavior should behave as it has for some time. If a window would be obscured by the launcher it should hide. If the launcher can be fully displayed without covering a window, it should be displayed. ** Affects: unity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/929303 Title: Launcher auto hide behavior broken in 5.2.0-0ubuntu3 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/929303/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 928826] Re: Autohide broken (always hides)
I'm very disappointed that this feature has been redacted by Mr. Shuttleworth. I decided to accept Unity on my netbook specifically because of this feature. I'm tired of Mr. Shuttleworth constantly trying to make my desktop look/behave like his. These constant disruptions to the desktop behavior (moving close icon, introducing Unity, preventing the panel from hiding, removing hovers from panel icons, universal menu, adding Dodge mode to launcher, removing Dodge mode from launcher) are becoming quite tedious and disconcerting. I'm tired of having to relearn how to use my PC every time I upgrade to a new Ubuntu version. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/928826 Title: Autohide broken (always hides) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/928826/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 845671] [NEW] Oneiric doesn't have ability to customize theme
Public bug reported: The Oneiric beta release has the ability to select different themes. However, this version of Ubuntu no longer has the ability to customize the theme. Natty had the ability to select things like the background/foreground color of tool tips, windows, etc. It is important to be able to adjust these colors. I use Eclipse to develop on Linux and some of the popup windows use system default colors for the background. The debugger tool tip windows showing variable values is one instance. The foreground color is very close to the system background color and you need to change the Ubuntu colors in order to see the data. If you don't, the display is black on black and can't be read. Releasing Oneiric without this ability will prevent me from upgrading. ** Affects: ubuntu-meta (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Package changed: ubuntu => ubuntu-meta (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/845671 Title: Oneiric doesn't have ability to customize theme To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-meta/+bug/845671/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 825939] Re: No easy way to change theme
I'm very disappointed that the Ubuntu developers allowed this release to proceed with such a basic requirement missing. Not allowing users to customize their desktop is unacceptable. Because of this regression, I will not be upgrading to the 11.10. In a number of the related bugs, a claim is made that this is an upstream issue and the problem needs to be brought up there. This is a cop out by the Ubuntu developers. Ubuntu delivers the desktop. They need to insure that it is functional for their users. Blaming someone else for their poor decisions reflects poorly on them and on their ability to meet their users needs. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/825939 Title: No easy way to change theme To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/825939/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
