[Bug 1904368] Re: eclipse ide has huge padding and inconsistencies

2020-11-17 Thread Carlo Lobrano
Hi thanks for the update.
I guess that Eclipse is picking some configuration (like the padding of its own
tabs) directly from the theme, which is indeed larger than Ambiance by design.

Yaru theme does not have any configuration specifically for Eclipse, so
I am sorry, but it is not something we can fix. I am not even sure this
is a bug, actually. Do you experience the same using Adwaita?

[Bug 1799217] [NEW] Yaru-dark packaged even if not complete, nor necessary

2018-10-22 Thread Carlo Lobrano
Public bug reported:

yaru-theme package for Cosmic Cuttlefish includes 'Yaru-dark', which is
not complete (it lacks of gtk2 folder).

Note, as discussed on IRC, in order to support applications that prefer
dark variant, /usr/share/themes/Yaru/gtk-3.0/gtk-dark.css is enough

[Bug 1803521] [NEW] gnome-initial-setup uses wrong icon

2018-11-15 Thread Carlo Lobrano
Public bug reported:

The "Welcome to Ubuntu" application uses the circle of friends Ubuntu
logo, while it is expected to use a Suru icon from Yaru theme.

version:
- Ubuntu 18.10
- gnome-initial-setup: 3.30.0-1ubuntu3

Steps to Reproduce the Problem

1. Install Ubuntu
2. Reboot
3. Check the icon used in the dock

This is the existing icon
https://github.com/ubuntu/yaru/blob/master/icons/src/fullcolor/apps/welcome-app.svg

Which is symlinked to
https://github.com/ubuntu/yaru/blob/master/icons/Suru/48x48/apps/ubuntu-welcome-app.png

[Bug 1803521] Re: gnome-initial-setup uses wrong icon

2018-11-15 Thread Carlo Lobrano
There are 4 gnome-initial-setup.desktop files in my system

/usr/share/applications/gnome-initial-setup.desktop
/usr/share/gdm/greeter/applications/gnome-initial-setup.desktop
/usr/share/ubuntu/applications/gnome-initial-setup.desktop
/usr/share/ubuntu-wayland/applications/gnome-initial-setup.desktop

the first two, defines

Icon:preferences-system

while the others

Icon:ubuntu-logo-icon

I believe this is the problem, but is it expected that not all .desktop files
are the same?

[Bug 1842886] Re: Yaru-dark shell menus are not dark

2019-12-16 Thread Carlo Lobrano
> When you selected a dark application theme, the gnome-shell top bar
menus used to also switch to match the theme

This premise seems incorrect to me. Gnome-tweaks variant switch worked
for gtk applications only, not for shell theme.

This is not really a bug, even if I understand not everyone might like the
light variant. We decided at first to enable light shell because improved the
visibility of some widgets (e.g. notifications popups) over a dark
headerbar/titlebar.

Later on, as Cody observed, we changed the build system to always
release both light and dark variant shell themes, but this has not been
released yet (I guess you should have it using the PPA or the snap
package).

2019-12-16 Thread Carlo Lobrano
Gnome shell menus were dark, but they didn't change along with gtk
theme, that's what I meant.

I agree with you that a dark theme might be better, but it didn't make
sense to have popups white and menus dark as well, so we aligned the
variants and provided both, just not yet released.

I will bring this to the team, however, to understand whether it's
better to have the shell default to light or dark.

[Bug 1869141] [NEW] [UIFe] Icon View Captions labels in Nautilus are hard to read when selected

2020-03-26 Thread Carlo Lobrano
Public bug reported:

First reported here: https://github.com/ubuntu/yaru/issues/2110

The "Icon View Captions" label in Nautilus is hard to read when the file
is selected.

Steps to Reproduce the Problem
- open Preferences > View Tab
- in the "Icon View Captions" section select at least one "information to be
displayed beneath file and folders name"
- Go back to Nautilus main window and select Icon View. Below the file name is
expected to be a new label with color gray
- Select the icon. The caption label keeps the gray color, which is hard to
read on an orange background

Yaru version

- Version 20.04.4 in current Focal daily

The fix has a low impact, since it only applies to Yaru's stylesheet part
dedicated to Nautilus, and specifically to this caption labels.

The slice of css you reported comes from a file containing specific

[Bug 1846871] [NEW] Desktop Icons NG shell extension breaks Activities vew

2019-10-05 Thread Carlo Lobrano
Public bug reported:

First reported here https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/installing-just-one-
extension-makes-ubuntu-eoan-to-fail/12816

Steps

1. I tried first to disabled default Desktop Icons extension(1)
2. I installed "Desktop Icons NG" from
https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/2087/desktop-icons-ng-ding/
3. Tested the extension was properly working (DnD, open folders) OK
4. Opened the Activity view: stuck in this view

At this stage there is no way to exit from the activity view. Arrow keys work
fine for moving the selection on open window, search works fine as well, but
pressing Enter key does nothing, as well as clicking on the close window X does
not kill the windows.
Logging out is the only way to recover, until Activity view is opened again.

Reproduced on Eoan in a VM, while it is not reproducible on Fedora 29
(currently I can't test the latest fedora, but the original report made
more tests and it seems reproducible in Eoan only).

This extension provides some more common features for desktop icons, so it is
likely to be installed more in the future.

Note:
1. The default desktop icons extension looks always disabled (GNOME tweaks
switch is off), even if it's actually working, so I just switched the
visibility of the icons off from default Desktop Icons settings. This very
likely did not disable the extension, but it's likely what a normal user would
do.

[Bug 1846871] Re: Desktop Icons NG shell extension breaks Activities vew

2019-10-05 Thread Carlo Lobrano
It seems to work fine on Ubuntu using GNOME vanilla session.

I don't know if it has been reported already to Carlos (I didn't know he
was the maintainer), but I wonder if it's possible to fix the status of
Desktop Icon on Ubuntu, since it doesn't seem to be possible to disable
it.

[Bug 1850260] Re: white color theme in yaru

2019-11-28 Thread Carlo Lobrano
Hi,

the shell light variant has become default in 19.10, so what you see is
expected.

In the meantime, the development version has been updated in order to provide
both light and dark variant, which you can select installing the User Themes
gnome-shell extension

[Bug 1795745] Re: Combobox opens at wrong vertical position

2019-11-28 Thread Carlo Lobrano
In current version the alignment is still slightly off by few pixels,
however the same misalignment is present upstream (at least on Adwaita
GTK 3.32), so the fix should be made there first.

[Bug 1845680] [NEW] [UIFe] Firefox active menu items are invisible in Yaru "Ambiance"

2019-09-27 Thread Carlo Lobrano
Public bug reported:

First reported here https://github.com/ubuntu/yaru/issues/1548

In Yaru "Ambiance", Firefox's "menuitem:hover" lacks of specific
background and color styling and the default values make the
menuitem:hover label invisible (dark text on dark background).

The same issue does not occur in Yaru-light and Yaru-dark.

The fix is limited to Firefox only (thanks to specific css target
MozillaGtkWidget) and only active in Yaru ambiance, so no negative
impact is expected.

Proposed fix here https://github.com/ubuntu/yaru/pull/1549

[Bug 1898324] Re: Different thickness title bars between gtk3 / gtk2 applications

2020-10-08 Thread Carlo Lobrano
Hi, gtk3 does not have titlebars, those are headerbar and I think we
should not compare them. The relationship is more between gtk3
headerbars and gtk2 titlebars+menubar, so if we make titlebar as tall as
headerbar we will just end up wasting space (considering that headerbar
are already quite thick, maybe too much, in my opinion).

Hi Daniel,

in gnome-shell selected text inside a StEntry is supposed to have orange
background and white text, regardless the variant (light or dark), so I don't
expect this issue to be related to bug 1842886, unless I am missing something

We have the same issue reported in Yaru's github repo and I worked a little on

Sorry, I didn't mean that the bug is surely due to Yaru theme :)

As reported in this bug, Yaru sets the proper color in gnome-shell css,
which is in-sync with upstream gnome-shell, so I suppose it should be
honored, but since I don't know the internals of gnome-shell, I can't
say that it is 100% a gnome-shell bug either.

[Bug 1871416] Re: alt-TAB hightlight colour almost indistinguishable from the background

2020-04-15 Thread Carlo Lobrano
I wonder if the iPad display would suffer from a screenshot taken on a
non perfectly calibrated display. Indeed we have never had before
complaints about this detail, but at the same time the contrast can be
tweaked a little for such case

[Bug 1873394] Re: Terminal does not respond to theme changes

2020-04-17 Thread Carlo Lobrano
This is intended. Gnome-terminal is shipped with "prefer-dark" enabled,
so it keeps the dark theme unless you change the application
configuration clicking on options (the "hamburger" menu) > preferences >
theme variant menu

[Bug 1873346] Re: Remove the grey border/background from the Files (nautilus) icon

2020-04-17 Thread Carlo Lobrano
This is a misunderstanding I think. There is no background in Files icon
as in the other icons, that's the full icon

[Bug 1871386] Re: Duplicate CSS Yaru-dark gnome-shell theme

2020-04-17 Thread Carlo Lobrano
There must be something with the build system. The "duplicated" location
is intended to support User Themes gnome extension, but

1. it should be a symlink to /usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/Yaru-dark
2. not that we use gresource, should link to... what the gresource file in
/usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/Yaru?

[Bug 1873346] Re: Remove the grey border/background from the Files (nautilus) icon

2020-04-17 Thread Carlo Lobrano
The Files icon is a folder on a plate, it's not the background of the
icon, it's the whole icon :)

[Bug 1871386] Re: Duplicate CSS Yaru-dark gnome-shell theme

2020-04-17 Thread Carlo Lobrano
In order to support User Themes gnome extension both locations are
necessary.

This extension looks into `/usr/share/themes/` for alternative gnome-
shell themes and makes them selectable from Gnome Tweaks.

The location `/usr/share/gnome-shell/` is used by gnome-shell itself to
look for default theme.

Of course, we don't need duplicates, a symlink is good enough.

I agree that using gresource a symlink does not work. It worked before
the last release, where gnome-shell Yaru theme was released with assets
instead than a gresource

[Bug 1873346] Re: Remove the grey border/background from the Files (nautilus) icon

2020-04-17 Thread Carlo Lobrano
This is the symbolic icon, it is always the same either in light or dark
theme. The symbolic icon is a simplified version of the full color one,
so some details are removed

[Bug 1873346] Re: Remove the grey border/background from the Files (nautilus) icon

2020-04-18 Thread Carlo Lobrano
I understand the preference and I have already reported it to our icon
designer :), but I had the impression, initially, that the ticket was
about a unexpected background that didn't belong to the icon, this is
what I was trying to explain
