[Bug 252026] Re: Hardy package for tovid doesn't makemenu, makexml etc. into user's path

2008-07-25 Thread Andy
Using 64 bit system unable to Burn DVD as well. The first error that stops the
system from finishing is:
Running command: makemenu
The button ">" doesn't exist in "Helvetica"
The font "Helvetica" will be used instead.
It looks like something went wrong, because there is no output file.

makemenu -debug -overwrite -ntsc -dvd -align south -menu-title
"80th_Birthday" -menu-title-fontsize 32 -background
"/home/acreech/Pictures/Irene Carnahan/Final_Copy/1911_0526_001.JPG"
-audio "/media/disk/Music/Yello/Stella/03 - Oh Yeah.ogg" -length 184
-font "Helvetica" -fontsize 24 -textcolor "rgb(255,255,255)" -fontdeco
'-stroke rgb(0,0,0) -strokewidth 1' -button ">" -highlightcolor
"rgb(255,255,0)" -selectcolor "rgb(255,0,0)" -button-outline
"rgb(0,255,0)" "Grandma Irene 80th ver1 1.mpeg" -out

[Bug 205939] Re: Totem kills two-screen-mode when going to fullscreen mode.

2008-07-29 Thread Andy
I've been using the latest available Ubuntu release.

Just two days ago I used the dialogue in 'System' to set the resolution
and the position of the two screens. It's working now.

Do you want to know the mentioned information anyway? Or should I mark
the bug as fixed?

Thanks for asking.
Greetings.
Andy

[Bug 220957] Re: Fails to see blank CD/DVDs for writing

2008-07-30 Thread Andy
Lets see. This problem has existed in Hardy since the first Alpha. It is
still not fixed.
Reading and burning DVD media is unreliable in Ubuntu Hardy. That is a fact.
I don't think it will be fixed in Hardy.
I think they are waiting to see if its fixed upstream or in Ibex. I dont think
the ability to read or burn
DVDs is a priority for the Ubuntu people. I guess once you can browse the web
then it works good enough.
But hey its free and u didnt have to pay for it so why complain?
I for one will not install Ubuntu Hardy on ANY more customers PCs until this
FUNDAMENTAL problem is fixed.
I am installing PClinuxOS which works fine. And have installed it on 23 PCs
so far none exhibit this problem.
So I will keep doing that until the Ubuntu people decide to make this
problem,.. (a problem that has existed for
several months), a priority.

[Bug 301115] [NEW] No "/dev/input/event*" gets created for IR

2008-11-22 Thread Andy
Public bug reported:

I have Hauppauge HVR-1110 TV tuner. The card itself works fine, but after i
upgraded to ubuntu 8.10 i noticed that i had lost lirc. I tried restarting lirc
with "/etc/init.d/lirc restart verbose" and got this:
 * Stopping remote control daemon(s): LIRC [fail]
 * Loading LIRC modules  [ OK ]
 * Unable to load LIRC kernel modules. Verify your
 * selected kernel modules in /etc/lirc/hardware.conf
Then i used "cat /proc/bus/input/devices" command to see if my ir receiver is
even recognized - it was not.

When i try using lircd -n and irw, it crashes and i get this output from lircd
-n:
lircd-0.8.3[7843]: lircd(userspace) ready
lircd-0.8.3[7843]: accepted new client on /dev/lircd
lircd-0.8.3[7843]: could not get file information for /dev/lirc
lircd-0.8.3[7843]: default_init(): No such file or directory
lircd-0.8.3[7843]: caught signal

Only errors i get in syslog, dmesg and messages are those same "lircd
-n" errors.

If i boot back to 2.6.24-16 kernel, the problem is gone, lirc works
okay.

[Bug 301115] Re: No "/dev/input/event*" gets created for IR

2008-11-23 Thread Andy
After building the latest v4l package, i have managed to get device to show up
with "cat /proc/bus/input/devices". "evtest /dev/input/event6" also sees my
remote input.
Although when I do "/etc/init.d/lirc restart verbose" i still get this:
 * Stopping remote control daemon(s): LIRC [fail]
 * Loading LIRC modules  [ OK ]
 * Unable to load LIRC kernel modules. Verify your
 * selected kernel modules in /etc/lirc/hardware.conf

Ive attached my lircs hardware.conf

[Bug 301115] Re: No "/dev/input/event*" gets created for IR

2008-11-23 Thread Andy
Some lirc kernel modules do not work (lirc_i2c, lirc_dev) either with
2.6.27-8-generic or 2.6.27-7-generic kernel. I did a format, installed
fresh 8.10 Ubuntu, same bug hit me again. When i use older 2.6.24-16
kernel, i get no complaints from lirc and remote works fine.

complete a 300 dpi scan. I've tried to take steps to include needed
information. Please let me know if you need anything else. Thanks.

2009-06-15 Thread ** Andy **
Can confirm this is the same for me, using Kubuntu 9.04 64-bit. Upgraded
to KDE 4.3 beta2 using backports, now Digikam doesn't show the images in
the main pane. They're definately in the Digikam database and they show
up when trying batch alterations. Tried re-building database but didn't
work.

[Bug 372469] Re: XV video crashes player on Jaunty (VIA KM400/KN400/P4M800, S3 UniChrome)

2009-06-30 Thread andy
I have a laptop acer aspire 1350 with chipset VIA KM400 and an LCD with a size
of 1024x768,
I added this line:
   Option "PanelSize" "1024x768"
in the xorg.conf file in the device section and now I can use mplayer, vlc and
totem with the XV driver
without problems.

I use the openchrome driver with svn revision 747.

This is my "device" section in the xorg.conf file:

Section "Device"
Identifier "VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8378 [S3 UniChrome] Integrated
Video"
   Driver "openchrome"
   Option "PanelSize" "1024x768"

[Bug 365182] Re: Firefox is flickering elements, drawing random lines, and other artifacts.

2009-07-01 Thread Andy
I am also experiencing this. Flickering and black boxes appearing at
random with Firefox. Scrolling usually makes it disappear. This
happens even when Firefox is NOT in full screen mode and also happens
with Compiz turned OFF.

[Bug 365182] Re: Firefox is flickering elements, drawing random lines, and other artifacts.

2009-07-03 Thread Andy
BTW...in the screen shot named "snapshot2.png" that was posted above,
the flickering black rectangles that are representative of the problem
that I observe are shown near the bottom of the captured Firefox screen.

What is also interesting is that I installed Kubuntu 9.04 on three
computers around the same time. Two computers are actually identical in
terms of hardware. I get this flickering black rectangle problem only
on one computer. On the affected computer, I did a fresh install of
Kubuntu 9.04 beta 4 and upgraded to the final release when it came out.
On the other two computers, I either did a fresh install of the final
release, or I did an upgrade install from Kubuntu 8.10. Maybe this is
unrelated.

[Bug 328575] Re: Cannot start gnome-terminal because of gconf error

2009-05-11 Thread Andy
I'm having this gconf error from a regular account. I use fluxbox.
Here's the command throwing the error.

x-terminal-emulator -T "Bash" -e /bin/bash --login

This issue seems to resolve itself after some usage. I suspect gphpedit
fires up the gonf daemon properly. I like to fire up my terminals
immediately after login though, and dropping to a text terminal (ctrl-
alt-F1) to fire up a terminal is really annoying. I'm not knowledgeable
about EUIDs or some of the other crazy stuff above, but I think they are
related to the root user, which is not what I'm trying to use. I just
want to open a terminal! And I'd rather not change the terminal I'm used
to.

The main purpose of this message is to point out that this is NOT just a
su issue.

[Bug 194339] Re: Sony firmware upgrade breaks WiFi

2008-11-05 Thread Andy
Nope, this is definitely broken in 8.10.

Network manager sees no access points, but gives me the option of
enabling/disabling my wireless (so it know its there).

I installed wifi-radar and it was able to detect my access point, but
wouldn't allow me to connect.

I'm using WEP 128-Hex for security and I'm running the latest version of
kboot in the repos.

Please advise.

[Bug 220957] Re: Fails to see blank CD/DVDs for writing

2008-10-18 Thread Andy

Downloaded ubuntu live/DAILY intrepid from cdimages.ubuntu.com today on Oct18.
Installed to USB drive booted the system that has problems reading DVDs in
Hardy, Inserted blank DVD, nothing happens. I try to click on the DVD/RW drive
in Computer inside gnome and i get the same message . "Unable to mount location
- No media in drive" in Hardy I have
ls -l /dev|grep scd0
cdrom ->scd0
cdrw ->scd0
sr0 ->scd0

In Intrepid daily I have
cdrom ->scd0
cdrw ->scd0
sr0 ->scd0
dvdrw1 ->scd0
dvd1 -> scd0

So i can confirm Booting from a live USB with Intrepid daily Oct18-2008
Inserting a blank DVD-R into the drive does nothing.
Inserting a blank CD pops up a "Blank CD-R dialog" asking what to do with blank
CD.

here is my hardware.

[Bug 290540] [NEW] upgraded to Intrepid network manger does not work

2008-10-28 Thread Andy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

After my upgrade using, update-manager -d, network manager would not
connect to my wired or wireless connection.

I had to manually configure my /etc/network/interfaces so I could get an
internet connection.

After doing this I added these lines to my sources.list file.
 deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/network-manager/ubuntu intrepid main
 deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/network-manager/ubuntu intrepid main

and upgraded these items and now it works.

[Bug 246081] Re: Shift key not working with compiz as active window manager.

2008-10-02 Thread Andy
Running Hardy & this bug just happened to me:

Switching from 'compiz' to 'metacity' fixed it, Instantly!

Before things went wrong (the shift key problem) I had installed brightside.
Changed the setting in 'Compiz Fusion Icon/settings manager/Effects/paint fire
on screen' I enabled it and chose the shift key ...Change from meta to fusion
...Reload windows manager & @@@ .re-tried to enable the 'fire effect'
with the shift key enabled and cannot use any shifted characters ... switching
backNO, no need to swicth to metacity ...Just disable the fire effect.
@@

Advice for now don't use the shift key with effects and this has to be a
bug in compiz.

I am very happy to say that it at least worked for me. Big thanks to the people
that found the solution.
As they say in the other bug track, it should probably still be considered a
"bug". But I'll leave that to others :)

And a quite silly bug it is. :(

[Bug 200337] Re: CD/DVD burning problem in hardy

2008-10-06 Thread Andy
I cannot believe that this problem is six months old and it seems that
its not important. I guess burning CDs and reading DVDs is simply not a
priority. They say this problem doesn't affect much people so no need
to prioritize this problem. They are about to release Intrepid with
this same problem. That just goes to show how low priority this is.
What is not funny is that in about 40% of the 400+ computers that I have
installed Ubuntu Hardy on I see this problem. Those 40% of the 400+
computers I have reloaded with PCLinuxOS and the problem disappears.
This is a HUGE problem and it seems some people don't grasp the
magnitude of this issue. 6 Months no solution to a show stopping
problem that affects about 40% of PC with Ubuntu Hardy installed. Its
really sad really. This problem and the failure of Canonical to see
the importance of it and to fix it for 6 whole months has put a bad
taste in my mouth and the mouth of over 200 of my customers that run
Ubuntu.Sorry to have to say it but the truth hurts.

I have setup a brand new DELL Precision T5400. Fresh install of Hardy I
insert a blank CD i get nothing. No
warning. Nothing in dmesg no error.I go to computer in gnome and click on
the drive and I get "UNABLE TO MOUNT LOCATION" "NO MEDIA IN THE DRIVE"

This is a BRAND NEW Dell workstation with sata.

In its current state Hardy is not worthy of being called and LTS let
alone ready for the office if u cant even burn a CD /DVD. very sad
indeed.

[Bug 200337] Re: CD/DVD burning problem in hardy

2008-10-06 Thread Andy
The reason why there are so many duplicates is because this issue is not just
related to burning.
Here is a simple run down.

In some configurations :-

Hardy 8.04 LTS will

1) Fail to recognize any DVDs DVD-r etc. and will only read CD-Roms no
burning on either CD or DVD

or

or

3) Fail to recognize DVDs but no blanks

In all these cases it does not work in gnome/nautilus nor does it work mounting

it simply fails to see the media "no media in drive" and nothing no errors in

[Bug 200337] Re: CD/DVD burning problem in hardy

2008-10-07 Thread Andy
We all appreciate the work of Sebastien and Martin and all the others
that oil in swamps with the bugs. Believe me if I knew how to code I
would have fixed this and the other highly visible nuances in this LTS
release. I also appreciate the words of the noble Alan J. I will pay
right now to have this fixed right now. I am not sure if getting a
support contract will fix this problem. 1 bugs are a lot and I
remember when MS was getting chastised and ridiculed for releasing
Windows2K with 1 bugs. I think they are just flooded in a
torrent of bugs and not enough manpower and the 6mnth release cycle adds
even more pressure to the mix. I think Mark will have to come up with a
solution to this 1 bug situation. I know none of us blames
Sebastien or Martin or any one else that have been working on many bugs
not just this one. I Think Canonical needs to start focusing more on
quality control hire more devs to fix these 1 bugs. I just can't
understand why this is low priority for 6 months now.

[Bug 185311] Re: hardy, locking assertion failure, xorg/libsdl

2008-09-10 Thread Andy
Here is what I found out that was causing VMWARE console to crash with
this bug in Hardy. I had a broken icon set. The default folder icons
in gnome had broken links. After fixing the links this bug
disappeared. If you run into this bug while starting the VMWARE
Console then switch to the default Human theme and try again. If it
works then you have a broken link in your custom icon theme that is
triggering this bug some how. Here is what was causing this bug for
me. In /usr/share/icons/customicons/scalable/places

ls -l
gnome-fs-directory.png -> folder
instead of folder.png

so i fixed the link to
gnome-fs-directory.png -> folder.png

Now vmware console starts up without issues.

[Bug 220957] Re: Fails to see blank CD/DVDs for writing

2008-09-10 Thread Andy
How do i download and install the new 2.6.27 kernel in Hardy? I tried
apt-cache search 2.6.27 and nothing showed up.

I have the same problems here. This seems to be more common
with PATA DVD drives. The DVD-ROMs and DVD-RWs will only recognize CDs and the
DVD-RWs wont even read a blank DVD.

OK that l3232 is a typo. A result of you running the "sed fix" for
64bit. I did not have to run that fix on hardy 64bit fresh install.
that l3232 is supposed to be l32 in the "sed fix" so it should be
/usr/l32/gtk.

[Bug 230644] [NEW] evolution 'storing folder'

2008-05-15 Thread Andy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

After upgrading to Hardy Heron: Whenever I change folders in evolution, I get a
message 'Storing folder (n% complete) This takes quite a while, and I have
never seen it before, on older versions. Then I also get the bug mentioned
elsewhere 'Error while Storing folder' but this only happens occasionally. It
just seems abnormally slow, and makes the whole box slow, but eventually gets
around to doing everything. I also get duplicates in my Inbox of everything
prior to 'Yesterday' - apparently. When I close Evolution, it takes ages to
close. When I re-open it, the duplicates are still there, showing as unread.
This is Ubuntu 8.04 - Hardy Heron

[Bug 107974] Re: Evolution will not remember exchange password

2008-08-12 Thread Andy
I found a solution to my problem. Hopefully it works for other people
too. I started evolution from a command prompt and was getting messages
these messages,

e-data-server-ui-Message: Unable to find password(s) in keyring (Keyring
reports: No matching results)
e-data-server-ui-Message: Key file does not have group 'Passwords-Exchange'

A quick internet search and I found a solution. I had specified my OWA
URL: under the Receiving Email tab in account setup using an ip address,
ie https://204.26.234.200/.

If I changed the OWA URL: to the actual domain name, ie https://trexchange/
then my password is remembered and everything works. I have added "trexchange"
to my /etc/hosts/ file. Seems like this is some sort of bug in the program
that stores the passwords.
Thanks,
Andy

[Bug 107974] Re: Evolution will not remember exchange password

2008-08-12 Thread Andy
I had some strange items listed in seahorse such as this,
204.26.234.200trexchange where it seemed to be referencing both the ip address
and the domain name. So I delete all references to this from seahorse and the
changed my OWA back to the IP address in the exchange account that I had setup.
Then my account would not work at all. It kept asking for my password but
never connecting at all. So I tried to go back to the server name, trexchange,
that worked before and it still would not connect. I had to delete the account
and recreate it using the server name and then it worked. There still seems to
be some sort of Evolution issue if you can't change your server name and end up
having to delete the account to fix it.

So I went back again deleted the account that worked and set it up again
using the IP address. Now it seems to be working fine. I looked in
Seahorse the reference to the server is correct and only has the IP
address. I will continue to use it and report back if I have any
issues. This is very strange.

Thanks,
Andy

As for tovidgui, it shouldn't fail - it was patched to find the
utilities where they are. If it does fail (and if you're sure that both
tovidgui and the utilities are from the Hardy package), then it _is_ a
bug - but I can't reproduce it.

[Bug 107974] Re: Evolution will not remember exchange password

2008-08-20 Thread Andy
I wanted to follow up that using the IP address for the account is still
working fine for me. As I said before, the fix for constantly getting
the request for your password seems to be to delete your exchange
account in Evolution and delete and references to the server in
Seahorse. Then recreate the exchange account in Evolution.

The settings in Evolution that work for me are on the Receiving Email
tab,

username (without the domain) i.e. "andy" not "engr\andy"

https://server ip address/

then click Authenticate and your mailbox name is filled in
automatically. For Authentication Type, I'm using, "Plaintext
Password".

On the receiving options tab, I have checked the following,
"Check for new messages every 10 minutes"
"Password Expiry Warning period:7"
"Automatically synchronize account locally"
"Apply filters to new messages in Inbox on this server" - > this is important
if you have filters you want to run to move mail to certain folders

The rest of the tabs in the exchange setup use the defaults.

Hopefully this helps someone.
Thanks,
Andy

[Bug 220957] Re: Fails to see blank CD/DVDs for writing

2008-06-08 Thread Andy
Will somebody at PLEASE fix this problem. I have several PCs and Laptops that
continue to
exhibit this issue and they also refuse to read any data or movie DVDs. The
drives are combo cdrw dvdrw drives and will only read burned CDs.This is a
CRITICAL issue and all the PCs worked perfectly fine in Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy)
Why are we having this problem now with hardware that used to work suddenly
does not and no one seems to realize how *CRITICAL* this is. This is a MAJOR
bug and its a problem with the KERNEL failure to read DVDs and blank media.
To summarize :
Many DVDrw drives will only read CDROMs
They will not read data or movie DVDs nor any blank media.
This problem is at the kernel level
These devices worked without problems in gutsy.

$ sudo mount -t udf /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom0
mount: No medium found

this problem manifest as several different bug reports with a plethora of
different
suggestions to try such as
==
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/228624
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-volume-manager/+bug/218834

Try to recheck if you did boot with the all_generic_ide=1
Other workarounds could be:
1. Booting with irqpoll.
2. Trying to use the 2.6.24-12 kernel.
3. Someone said that he got a better umda cable and now his drive speed was
properly seen as udma2.
===

I hate to be harsh here but it has been 2 months since Hardy was
released with a bug that should have never been released and yet this is
not fixed. With ever release of ubuntu there are massive show stopping
bugs that really turn people off.

this in the log files when i had those modules loaded.

[Bug 200337] Re: CD/DVD burning problem in hardy

2008-06-09 Thread Andy
I am having the similar issues
A little history.
This system was running Gutsy
I backed up /home on Gutsy by burning to DVD on this system
reformatted installed Hardy from cdrom with the DVD drive
currently in the system. After a fresh install of Hardy the problems
began.
What I am experiencing on 5 PCs 2 laptops is this.
Data CDs and music CDs work fine.
Data DVDs or movie DVDs or blank DVDs do not
work on this system since Hardy was installed.

More info:-

No errors in kern.log or dmesg

~$ mount /dev/dvd

[Bug 272205] Re: No sound with kernel 2.6.27, Toshiba ATI IXP SB4x0

2008-12-30 Thread Andy
Same problem. Sound worked in Gutsy. Upgraded from gutsy to Hardy and got no
sound. Upgraded from Hardy to Intrepid still no sound
This is a Acer Ferrari 5000 laptop.

Why does Ubuntu have so many regressions? It seems like every time a
new version comes out something that used to work gets broken. I think
the quality of Ubuntu is starting to suffer. I never saw this problem
on Mandrake back in the day. With Intrepid Atheros wireless on another
laptop quit working and now this sb4x0 issue on this laptop.

[Bug 299112] Re: VNC Very Slow after Intrepid Upgrade

2009-01-10 Thread Andy
Same here. This is basically unusable. I tried the Vinagre client and
its no luck there. Its a dog. Does anyone test this stuff before they
release it? Remote Desktop is a commonly used feature on modern
operating systems don't you think one would test this stuff without
releasing with such a major regression? And when will this be fixed? in
the next version of Ubuntu? 6 months from now? What a mess.

[Bug 194991] Re: Dell e173fp flat panel screen resolution issues

2008-12-27 Thread Andy
Same problem same monitor. Please fix this bug. Why are there so many
bugs like this in Ubuntu? Why is it that windows doesn't have these
silly issues and ubuntu its almost guaranteed that you are going to be
chasing some silly bug or regression with every release. I guess they
just don't have the resources to test anything anymore.

this bug. I'm not sure the correct way to close a bug. Based on the
comments at the top it looks like it will automatically be expired after

[Bug 320547] Re: trying to browse smb:// network spawn an error

2009-03-16 Thread Andy
Hello? Guys. Is anyone going to fix this MAJOR show stopper? This is a
serious problem. Cannot browse windows networks from a modern operating
system out of the box is a serious problem these days. Even trying to
manually mount from gnome is a disaster. trying smb://servername/share
does not even work. Something a basic as this? Come on guys.

[Bug 330201] [NEW] kde4 systemsettings file associations cannot be changed

2009-02-16 Thread andy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: systemsettings-kde4

hello,

it is not possible to change the file association in the kde system settings.
how to reproduce:
1. start the kde systemsettings with "sudo systemsettings"
2. select file associations on the second tab (Extended?)
3. select the pdf file association:
per default i have the following associations:
1: Gimp Image Editor (which starts with gimp-2.6 %U)
   2. Okular (which starts with okular %U %i -caption "%c")

4. i tried to change the command for okular to "okular %U" but it does not work.
a dialog is shown that the system settings will be updated, but that does
not work.

for some reason i can see the okular entry twice after i tried to change the
command !!
both entries still have the command (okular %U %i -caption "%c").
btw. why is gimp the default file association for pdf files, even though okular
is installed !

[Bug 294730] Re: Screensaver hangs after Intrepid update

2009-03-04 Thread Andy
Well this is happening to me now. On 3 machines. one upgraded, one
32bit fresh install and one 64bit fresh install. Same exact thing as
you explained it is happening to me.

I am not sure what to do now. I can't deliver computers to customers in this
broken state.
Can someone at least tell us how to deliver Ubuntu to customers with a working
screensaver?
or should we just remove the screensavers before delivery? And what do we tell
the end users if we do that?
thanks.

[Bug 230931] Re: Screensaver causes display freeze

2009-03-04 Thread Andy
Same problem. also running Slickness as the Gnome theme. Compiz enabled with
Emerald.
If I leave the computers for a few hours and come back and press the keyboard
or mouse the screensaver goes away but the desktop does not comeback. I can
only see the wallpaper and mouse and can move the mouse.Ctrl+Alt+Backspace
does not work. Nor does Ctrl+Alt+F1-F6 I have to hold the power button down
for a hard reboot and lose data.

[Bug 299112] Re: VNC Very Slow after Intrepid Upgrade

2009-02-08 Thread Andy
Chris thanks, I'll look at XVNC. Sebastien, If there are only a few
people working on fixing bugs then we should just expect massive obvious
functionality killing regressions with each new release and not be
surprised when Ubuntu gets a reputation for being full of obvious bugs
right? No one is blaming you so I don't see why so defensive. This
is the responsibility of Canonical and Mark. Maybe Canonical should
just hire a team of people to test the basic functionality of visible
user facing features so we don't have things like this and the pusle
audio, and CD/DVD reading/burning and NvidA 640x480 and SB450
model=x etc fiasco. Among others. Regressions are a very bad thing
and is not to be taken lightly. So if you cannot handle your workload
maybe that frustration should be directed at Mark. Buck0182, Telling
people its free so they should expect poor quality control does not do
anything to promote Ubuntu or Free Software. That is simply
programming people to expect that poor quality control = free software.
( Sticking to release dates < Fixing regressions. )

[Bug 299112] Re: VNC Very Slow after Intrepid Upgrade

2009-02-09 Thread Andy
Sebastien this is not "My" bug. This bug shows up on every installation
of Ubuntu that I do for people. No matter the hardware. If i knew how
to program then i would fix it myself god knows i would volunteer to
test user facing features before release and fix all of them if I knew
how to do that. What i try to do to help is first spread Ubuntu (157
users so far) and second report bugs here. Why wait for upstream to fix
bugs? Can't they be fixed downstream? Would that not be a good value
add to Ubuntu if they fix the obvious bugs instead of waiting for
upstream and a whole new version to upgrade to? I have tried different
windows clients, and Mac clients along with clients on Ubuntu and
PClinuxOS none of them work. If I install hardy then it works but only
IPV6 out of the box. What gives? Can you try verify this bug and see
if you can duplicate it. I have no problems doing so. Just install a
plain vanilla version of Intrepid then enable remote desktop then try to
connect to it with a 54MBS wireless connection. See what happens. Try
it even with a DSL Cable connection. See what happens. As it stand
right now Ubuntu does not have any viable remote desktop feature out of
the box. That is sad in these times. Unfortunately this is a bug of
anyone that uses VNC. This is not just "My" bug. So i ask you. What
else can I do to be constructive so that you and your team can fix this
bug in a timely fashion? I am at your command.

if you want to print the created invoices with kraft you also need to install
the package python-trml2pdf . i'd really
appreciate if anybody could add this dependency to kraft.
