Using 64 bit system unable to Burn DVD as well. [Bug 205939] Re: Totem kills two-screen-mode when going to fullscreen mode.
I've been using the latest available Ubuntu release. Just two days ago I used the dialogue in 'System' to set the resolution and the position of the two screens. It's working now. Do you want to know the mentioned information anyway? Or should I mark the bug as fixed? Thanks for asking. Greetings. [Bug 220957] Re: Fails to see blank CD/DVDs for writing
Lets see. This problem has existed in Hardy since the first Alpha. It is still not fixed. Reading and burning DVD media is unreliable in Ubuntu Hardy. That is a fact. I don't think it will be fixed in Hardy. I think they are waiting to see if its fixed upstream or in Ibex. I dont think the ability to read or burn DVDs is a priority for the Ubuntu people. I guess once you can browse the web then it works good enough. But hey its free and u didnt have to pay for it so why complain? I for one will not install Ubuntu Hardy on ANY more customers PCs until this FUNDAMENTAL problem is fixed. I am installing PClinuxOS which works fine. And have installed it on 23 PCs so far none exhibit this problem. So I will keep doing that until the Ubuntu people decide to make this problem,.. (a problem that has existed for several months), a priority. -- Fails to see blank CD/DVDs for writing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/220957 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 365182] Re: Firefox is flickering elements, drawing random lines, and other artifacts.
BTW...in the screen shot named "snapshot2.png" that was posted above, the flickering black rectangles that are representative of the problem that I observe are shown near the bottom of the captured Firefox screen. What is also interesting is that I installed Kubuntu 9.04 on three computers around the same time. Two computers are actually identical in terms of hardware. I get this flickering black rectangle problem only on one computer. On the affected computer, I did a fresh install of Kubuntu 9.04 beta 4 and upgraded to the final release when it came out. On the other two computers, I either did a fresh install of the final release, or I did an upgrade install from Kubuntu 8.10. [Bug 328575] Re: Cannot start gnome-terminal because of gconf error
I'm having this gconf error from a regular account. I use fluxbox. Here's the command throwing the error. x-terminal-emulator -T "Bash" -e /bin/bash --login This issue seems to resolve itself after some usage. I suspect gphpedit fires up the gonf daemon properly. I like to fire up my terminals immediately after login though, and dropping to a text terminal (ctrl- alt-F1) to fire up a terminal is really annoying. I'm not knowledgeable about EUIDs or some of the other crazy stuff above, but I think they are related to the root user, which is not what I'm trying to use. I just want to open a terminal! [Bug 200337] Re: CD/DVD burning problem in hardy
I cannot believe that this problem is six months old and it seems that its not important. I guess burning CDs and reading DVDs is simply not a priority. They say this problem doesn't affect much people so no need to prioritize this problem. They are about to release Intrepid with this same problem. That just goes to show how low priority this is. What is not funny is that in about 40% of the 400+ computers that I have installed Ubuntu Hardy on I see this problem. Those 40% of the 400+ computers I have reloaded with PCLinuxOS and the problem disappears. This is a HUGE problem and it seems some people don't grasp the magnitude of this issue. 6 Months no solution to a show stopping problem that affects about 40% of PC with Ubuntu Hardy installed. Its really sad really. This problem and the failure of Canonical to see the importance of it and to fix it for 6 whole months has put a bad taste in my mouth and the mouth of over 200 of my customers that run Ubuntu.Sorry to have to say it but the truth hurts. I have setup a brand new DELL Precision T5400. Fresh install of Hardy I insert a blank CD i get nothing. No warning. Nothing in dmesg no error.I go to computer in gnome and click on the drive and I get "UNABLE TO MOUNT LOCATION" "NO MEDIA IN THE DRIVE" This is a BRAND NEW Dell workstation with sata. In its current state Hardy is not worthy of being called and LTS let alone ready for the office if u cant even burn a CD /DVD. very sad indeed. -- CD/DVD burning problem in hardy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/200337 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to k3b in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
[Bug 200337] Re: CD/DVD burning problem in hardy
The reason why there are so many duplicates is because this issue is not just related to burning. Here is a simple run down. In some configurations :- Hardy 8.04 LTS will 1) Fail to recognize any DVDs DVD-r etc. and will only read CD-Roms no burning on either CD or DVD or 2) Fail to recongize only CD-ROMs and Burn to CD-ROMs only. Not DVDs. or 3) Fail to recognize DVDs but no blanks or 4) fail to recognize DVD media burned in Gutsy. Yet WinXP sees the DVD and all previous versions of Ubuntu sees the DVD In all these cases it does not work in gnome/nautilus nor does it work mounting manually on the command line. it simply fails to see the media "no media in drive" and nothing no errors in syslog or dmesg. -- CD/DVD burning problem in hardy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/200337 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 200337] Re: CD/DVD burning problem in hardy
We all appreciate the work of Sebastien and Martin and all the others that oil in swamps with the bugs. Believe me if I knew how to code I would have fixed this and the other highly visible nuances in this LTS release. I also appreciate the words of the noble Alan J. I will pay right now to have this fixed right now. I am not sure if getting a support contract will fix this problem. 1 bugs are a lot and I remember when MS was getting chastised and ridiculed for releasing Windows2K with 1 bugs. I think they are just flooded in a torrent of bugs and not enough manpower and the 6mnth release cycle adds even more pressure to the mix. I think Mark will have to come up with a solution to this 1 bug situation. I know none of us blames Sebastien or Martin or any one else that have been working on many bugs not just this one. I Think Canonical needs to start focusing more on quality control hire more devs to fix these 1 bugs. [Bug 185311] Re: hardy, locking assertion failure, xorg/libsdl
Here is what I found out that was causing VMWARE console to crash with this bug in Hardy. I had a broken icon set. The default folder icons in gnome had broken links. After fixing the links this bug disappeared. If you run into this bug while starting the VMWARE Console then switch to the default Human theme and try again. If it works then you have a broken link in your custom icon theme that is triggering this bug some how. Here is what was causing this bug for me. I started evolution from a command prompt and was getting messages these messages, e-data-server-ui-Message: Unable to find password(s) in keyring (Keyring reports: No matching results) e-data-server-ui-Message: Key file does not have group 'Passwords-Exchange' A quick internet search and I found a solution. I had specified my OWA URL: under the Receiving Email tab in account setup using an ip address, ie https://204.26.234.200/. If I changed the OWA URL: to the actual domain name, ie https://trexchange/ then my password is remembered and everything works. I have added "trexchange" to my /etc/hosts/ file. Seems like this is some sort of bug in the program that stores the passwords. [Bug 107974] Re: Evolution will not remember exchange password
I had some strange items listed in seahorse such as this, 204.26.234.200trexchange where it seemed to be referencing both the ip address and the domain name. So I delete all references to this from seahorse and the changed my OWA back to the IP address in the exchange account that I had setup. Then my account would not work at all. It kept asking for my password but never connecting at all. So I tried to go back to the server name, trexchange, that worked before and it still would not connect. I had to delete the account and recreate it using the server name and then it worked. There still seems to be some sort of Evolution issue if you can't change your server name and end up having to delete the account to fix it. So I went back again deleted the account that worked and set it up again using the IP address. Now it seems to be working fine. I looked in Seahorse the reference to the server is correct and only has the IP address. I will continue to use it and report back if I have any issues. This is very strange. I hate to admit this, but I just re ran the program the same as I did before and it seems to have worked. [Bug 107974] Re: Evolution will not remember exchange password
I wanted to follow up that using the IP address for the account is still working fine for me. As I said before, the fix for constantly getting the request for your password seems to be to delete your exchange account in Evolution and delete and references to the server in Seahorse. Then recreate the exchange account in Evolution. The settings in Evolution that work for me are on the Receiving Email tab, username (without the domain) i.e. "andy" not "engr\andy" https://server ip address/ then click Authenticate and your mailbox name is filled in automatically. For Authentication Type, I'm using, "Plaintext Password". On the receiving options tab, I have checked the following, "Check for new messages every 10 minutes" "Password Expiry Warning period:7" "Automatically synchronize account locally" "Apply filters to new messages in Inbox on this server" - > this is important if you have filters you want to run to move mail to certain folders The rest of the tabs in the exchange setup use the defaults. Hopefully this helps someone. [Bug 220957] Re: Fails to see blank CD/DVDs for writing
Will somebody at PLEASE fix this problem. I have several PCs and Laptops that continue to exhibit this issue and they also refuse to read any data or movie DVDs. The drives are combo cdrw dvdrw drives and will only read burned CDs.This is a CRITICAL issue and all the PCs worked perfectly fine in Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy) Why are we having this problem now with hardware that used to work suddenly does not and no one seems to realize how *CRITICAL* this is. This is a MAJOR bug and its a problem with the KERNEL failure to read DVDs and blank media. To summarize : Many DVDrw drives will only read CDROMs They will not read data or movie DVDs nor any blank media. This problem is at the kernel level These devices worked without problems in gutsy. $ sudo mount -t udf /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom0 mount: No medium found this problem manifest as several different bug reports with a plethora of different suggestions to try such as == https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/228624 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-volume-manager/+bug/218834 Try to recheck if you did boot with the all_generic_ide=1 Other workarounds could be: 1. Booting with irqpoll. 2. Trying to use the 2.6.24-12 kernel. 3. Unfortunately, I no longer have the machine that had this problem so I won't be able to supply any of the requested information. I wish I could have been more helpful. [Bug 330201] [NEW] kde4 systemsettings file associations cannot be changed
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: systemsettings-kde4 hello, it is not possible to change the file association in the kde system settings. how to reproduce: 1. start the kde systemsettings with "sudo systemsettings" 2. select file associations on the second tab (Extended?) 3. select the pdf file association: per default i have the following associations: 1: Gimp Image Editor (which starts with gimp-2.6 %U) 2. Okular (which starts with okular %U %i -caption "%c") 4. i tried to change the command for okular to "okular %U" but it does not work. a dialog is shown that the system settings will be updated, but that does not work. for some reason i can see the okular entry twice after i tried to change the command !! both entries still have the command (okular %U %i -caption "%c"). btw. why is gimp the default file association for pdf files, even though okular is installed ! ** Affects: kdebase-workspace (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- kde4 systemsettings file associations cannot be changed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/330201 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kdebase-workspace in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 294730] Re: Screensaver hangs after Intrepid update
Well this is happening to me now. On 3 machines. one upgraded, one 32bit fresh install and one 64bit fresh install. Same exact thing as you explained it is happening to me. I am not sure what to do now. I can't deliver computers to customers in this broken state. [Bug 299112] Re: VNC Very Slow after Intrepid Upgrade
Chris thanks, I'll look at XVNC. Sebastien, If there are only a few people working on fixing bugs then we should just expect massive obvious functionality killing regressions with each new release and not be surprised when Ubuntu gets a reputation for being full of obvious bugs right? No one is blaming you so I don't see why so defensive. This is the responsibility of Canonical and Mark. Maybe Canonical should just hire a team of people to test the basic functionality of visible user facing features so we don't have things like this and the pusle audio, and CD/DVD reading/burning and NvidA 640x480 and SB450 model=x etc fiasco. Among others. Regressions are a very bad thing and is not to be taken lightly. So if you cannot handle your workload maybe that frustration should be directed at Mark. Buck0182, Telling people its free so they should expect poor quality control does not do anything to promote Ubuntu or Free Software. That is simply programming people to expect that poor quality control = free software. [Bug 299112] Re: VNC Very Slow after Intrepid Upgrade
Sebastien this is not "My" bug. This bug shows up on every installation of Ubuntu that I do for people. No matter the hardware. If i knew how to program then i would fix it myself god knows i would volunteer to test user facing features before release and fix all of them if I knew how to do that. What i try to do to help is first spread Ubuntu (157 users so far) and second report bugs here. Why wait for upstream to fix bugs? Can't they be fixed downstream? Would that not be a good value add to Ubuntu if they fix the obvious bugs instead of waiting for upstream and a whole new version to upgrade to? I have tried different windows clients, and Mac clients along with clients on Ubuntu and PClinuxOS none of them work. If I install hardy then it works but only IPV6 out of the box. What gives? Can you try verify this bug and see if you can duplicate it. I have no problems doing so. Just install a plain vanilla version of Intrepid then enable remote desktop then try to connect to it with a 54MBS wireless connection. See what happens. Try it even with a DSL Cable connection. See what happens. As it stand right now Ubuntu does not have any viable remote desktop feature out of the box. That is sad in these times. Unfortunately this is a bug of anyone that uses VNC. This is not just "My" bug. So i ask you. What else can I do to be constructive so that you and your team can fix this bug in a timely fashion?
