[Bug 911591] Re: gnome-shell crashes when resizing OpenGL window

2017-12-02 Thread dino99
@James

Please, dont revive a deadly report, its useless and spamming the report with
different data. That is not the best way to catch dev attention.
As you can see, that report have not got a single dev question or answer; do
you mind why ?

If you still have that problem, then confirm it still exist on a fresh
recent install (not on a system that got many dist-upgrades, and
polluted with old borked settings. As you are using a nvidia driver,
either follow the #8 link's comment about adding nvidia parameters in
such a case, or confirm when using 'nouveau' instead. In both cases,
install the dev packages to get a usefull report using ubuntu-bug.

[Bug 1689825] Re: gnome-keyring not unlocked on xenial when dbus-user-session is installed

2017-12-02 Thread ipkpjersi
Any update on this issue? I do not feel comfortable removing dbus-user-
session as a workaround, and I have simply added --password-store=basic
as an argument for Chromium/Chrome for now. However that is not
completely suitable even though I only use Chromium/Chrome as a
secondary browser, and I am wondering if this issue is still being
looked into, and am inquiring for perhaps more details about it if
anyone has any more details like if the maintainers/developers of dbus-
user-session (whoever they may be?) are aware of this bug, etc. I am
using Ubuntu 16.04 and Xfce 4.12 and the latest google-chrome-stable,
chromium-browser, dbus-user-session, etc. I see someone has stated back
in August that using Ubuntu 17.10 with Gnome shell and gdm still
produces this issue, I wonder if this is still the case or if this issue
has been fixed by now at least on Ubuntu 17.10?

Also, on a side-note, does anyone know the exact details of what the
password-store argument does? For example, if I turn password saving in
Chromium off and don't use Google/Chrome sync, am I "safe" to log into
websites without my passwords being stored in plain-text on my hard
drive (even if temporary)?

I may end up looking into Kwallet to see if this is a suitable
alternative to GNOME keyring at least for Chromium.

Thanks.

I experienced the same issue in 16.04 but things definitely worked in

Updating to 17.04 now results in the same problem again. Mouse clicks
are lost regularly, and dmesg shows entries like below:

[Bug 1734542] Re: Get cpu throttling with vanilla kernels, but not with ubuntu kernels.

2017-12-02 Thread dino99
Digging around that issue, i've found that the cpu is doing dynamic
scalling as expected:

 cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor
powersave

 cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_cur_freq
1186775

Meaning its a system-monitor applet displaying continuous max rate with
ubuntu kernel, and displaying the real time rate with vanilla kernel.

Reporting a separate bug and closing that one.

[Bug 1675888] Re: various applets occasionally crash on transparent panel

2017-12-02 Thread Vlad Orlov
Testing in Zesty...

- replaced local builds of mate-panel, mate-panel-common, gir1.2-mate-panel,
libmate-panel-applet-4-1 packages with version 1.18.1-0ubuntu2.1 from
zesty-proposed
- set the panel background on both top and bottom panels to be transparent
- logged out and back in - no applets were crashing
- opened the properties dialog for the top panel
- moved the transparency slider very fast back and forth a few times - no
crashes
- repeated the same test with the slider for the bottom panel - no crashes

All good, the applet crashes don't happen anymore.

[Bug 1735893] [NEW] Display only max cpu frequency with ubuntu kernels

2017-12-02 Thread dino99
Public bug reported:

I've found that ubuntu's kernels were always displaying max cpu
frequency via the freq applet, but when vanilla kernels are used, the
freq applet is doing real time frequency outputs.

I first was beleiving it was a kernel issue:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1734542

but then using a 4.13.0-18-generic kernel, i see the kernel is really
scaling as expected:

cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor
powersave

cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_cur_freq

but the freq applet is only displaying the max rate: 3200 MHz, which is

[Bug 1676840] Re: mate-panel crashes on empty Icon field in any .desktop file

2017-12-02 Thread Vlad Orlov
Testing in Zesty. It's done after testing the fix for bug 1675888, so
the packages are already updated to version 1.18.1-0ubuntu2.1 from
zesty-proposed.

- made the Icon field empty in /usr/share/applications/pluma.desktop
- restarted the panel
- reinstalled engrampa package (it could be any package which has a .desktop
file)
- waited a few minutes - the panel doesn't crash
- reinstalled pluma package to get the Icon field filled again
- waited a few minutes again - the panel doesn't crash
- checked the panel menubar - all menu items have their icons, so no regression
happened

All good here.

I run tests with rkhunter and it seems that everything is o.k.
Today when I started the computer a warning pop's up and here I am trying to

[Bug 1734147] Re: Ubuntu 17.10 corrupting BIOS - many LENOVO laptops models

2017-12-02 Thread Marcin Ciosek
Since people don't care to read whole discussion I'm going to repeat myself
here every few posts.
It is not caused by Ubuntu 17.10
It is general Linux issue (I was Antergos user when it hit me)
Solution is to physically replace NVRAM chip and reflash it with the content
from the old one.
Workaround - use rEFInd as I've posted the step-by-step guide at Lenovo site.

[Bug 1735833] Re: Please sync gparted 0.38.0-3 from debian unstable

2017-12-02 Thread Jeremy Bicha
My understanding is that the Ubuntu Security team does not want
gparted's --enable-xhost-root option. I think that option is
inappropriate for Debian too, but I had not filed the bug there yet.

Also, I have some changes from LP: #1709140 that are useful. For
instance, you should be able to run some of the build tests.

I guess I didn't get around to uploading my work yet because of the
googletest issue and autopkgtest issue, but neither of those are really
blockers.

The appropriate team to subscribe is ~ubuntu-sponsors not ~ubuntu-
archive. I encourage you to use requestsync from ubuntu-dev-tools to
help file the bug next time. But in this case, Ubuntu would need a
merge, not a sync because of my first point.

Thank you for maintaining gparted.

[Bug 1728431] Re: Usage of gpg-agent should not be enforced

other packages which could rely on the gnugpg cache.

[Bug 1735912] [NEW] Firefox reliably crashes on apt upgrade

2017-12-02 Thread Anders Kaseorg
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

1. kvm -cdrom ubuntu-17.10-desktop-amd64.iso -m 4096
2. Select “Try Ubuntu”.
3. Start Firefox.
4. Start Software Updater; uncheck everything except Firefox Web Browser;
select “Install Now”.
5. When update finishes, switch back to Firefox and go to www.google.com.

Firefox immediately crashes. (This seems to happen after every recent
Firefox update, not just 56 to 57.)

[Bug 1735913] [NEW] nvidia-384 384.90-0ubuntu3.17.10.1: nvidia-384 kernel module failed to build

2017-12-02 Thread Casey Hoefer
Public bug reported:

**NEW COMPUTER BUILD** I had been experiencing buggy graphics behavior,
and installing a driver from the additional drivers tab of the software
and updates window helped, but did not completely fix the problem. So I
went to the nvidia website and installed their newest driver which I
believe is a bit newer than yours. (384.98) for some reason the install
process was super slow, so i left it running over night. In the morning
the system was completely locked up. Upon reboot, the buggy behavior was
gone. I went poking around in the software and updates again, and this
error popped up. additional drivers still shows 384.98 selected, so i
think there might be an issue there.

Hardware:
Intel i7-8700k @ 3.7GHz boost to 4.7GHz
Asus ROG Maximus X Hero (WIFI AC) - wireless doesn't work by the way... asus
doesnt seem to have a driver for linux yet.
16gb, DDR4 3200 Ram
EVGA Hybrid SC2 GTX1080 Ti
6tb WD Black HDD, Linux running on 1TB partition. i intend to dual boot
eventually with windows as the main in stalled on an m.2 drive.

I found this problem on Bionic but being able to reproduce it in Artful i guess
is better to open the bug on Artful being a stable environment.

i'm opening this bug on ubiquity, but ubiquity is not installed, please correct

2017-12-02 Thread Stephan Springer
Sorry, the computer still freezes completely in the moment when I click
on the “Start” button in VirtualBox (right when the boot window opens),
when running a 4.13 kernel on the host. It still works on a 4.11 kernel.

Do I need to do anything else besides installing the three packages
mentioned above?

[Bug 1735917] [NEW] Switching workspaces via bash with zenity prompt causes budgie-wm segmentation fault

2017-12-02 Thread Tom Holmes
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Release: 17.04 with Budgie-Remix installed
Zenity Version: 3.24.0-0ubuntu1
Wmctrl Version: 1.07-7

When using wmctrl or zenity separately, they both work fine. Put them
together however and budgie window manager crashes with a segmentation
fault.

This happens using both "wmctrl -s 0" and "xdotool set_desktop 0". They
work fine on their own but not in combination with Zenity.

Expected Result: Running the script from workspace 0 switches to
workspace 3 and opens firefox. Running again prompts the user to ask if
they're sure, then switches back to workspace 0 if they click yes.

Actual Result: Running the script from workspace 0 switches to workspace
3 and opens firefox. Running again prompts the user to ask if they're
sure, then budgie window manager crashes with a segmentation fault if
they click yes.

Code to replicate:

#!/bin/bash

desktop=$(xdotool get_desktop) #Get current workspace id

if [ "${desktop}" -eq 0 ] #If workspace == 0
then
  wmctrl -s 3 #Switch to workspace 3
  firefox --new-window "http://www.reddit.com";
else
zenity --question --title "Switch Workspace?" --text "Are you sure you
wish to return to previous workspace?"
if ! $? #If response Yes
then
  wmctrl -s 0 #Switch back
else
notify-send "Operation Aborted" "User canceled workspace return."
fi
fi

Example of working code when `wmctrl` command is used alone:

#!/bin/bash

desktop=$(xdotool get_desktop) #Get current workspace id

if [ "${desktop}" -eq 0 ] #If workspace == 0
then
  wmctrl -s 3 #Switch to workspace 3
  firefox --new-window "http://www.reddit.com";
else
  wmctrl -s 0 #Switch back
fi

[Bug 1735893] Re: Display only max cpu frequency with ubuntu kernels

2017-12-02 Thread dino99
Testing a bit more:

made a fresh bionic install, choose the ubuntu-desktop, login with gnome
on xorg, install the applet

with that standalone installation (not sharing /home with old settings)
the applet is well displaying realtime throttling. So the previous issue
is due to some setting(s) not well updated during package(s) upgrade.

[Bug 658004] Re: brasero dvd capacity estimation is broken

2017-12-02 Thread David Balažic
I tried ubuntu 17.10 (live) and it seems thing changed.

When I try to test an ISO file, in the right click menu there is no more
a "Write to Disc..." option.

The closest thing is "Open With Disk Image Writer", which then ask for the
destination drive, but does not allow the DVD unit (there is a blank DVD+RW
inserted, displayed as so on the desktop) to be selected, it is greyed out.
Even if I try a smaller (391MB) ISO file.

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)

** Description changed:

Occurred whilst using Firefox Nightly 59.0a1 (2017-11-22) - session had
been active for several days. No crash report or other useful info in
  other logs than shown here.

Firefox stopped responding then I realised the entire desktop had
likewise although touchpad/mouse movement was fine. Keyboard input was
  also unavailable (including Ctrl+Alt+Fx).

SSHed in and after seeing the entries in kern.log did "pkill firefox"
upon which full control was regained.

[Bug 1735930] [NEW] Bug in /usr/share/mysql/mysql-systemd-start script

2017-12-02 Thread Brian Pape
Public bug reported:

Bug in script; does not properly print error message or exit with
correct exit code when mysqld server is not running when executed with
"post" argument.

expected behavior:
when script is called with argument "post", exit with correct exit code and
print error message when mysqld is not running

actual behavior:
execution drops off end of script with exit code of 0 and no message printed

reason:
script is using test builtin ('[') and doing a string comparison (obvious from
diff) rather than executing the 'false' builtin.

release:
Description:Ubuntu 17.10
Release:17.10

NOTE: launchpad says:
"mysql-server-5.7" does not exist in Ubuntu. Please choose a different package.
My only choice is "mysql-5.7" (which is clearly not what dpkg-query or
apt-cache report!)

package:

# dpkg-query -S /usr/share/mysql/mysql-systemd-start
mysql-server-5.7: /usr/share/mysql/mysql-systemd-start

# apt-cache policy mysql-server-5.7
mysql-server-5.7:
  Installed: 5.7.20-0ubuntu0.17.10.1
  Candidate: 5.7.20-0ubuntu0.17.10.1
