Public bug reported: I've found that ubuntu's kernels were always displaying max cpu frequency via the freq applet, but when vanilla kernels are used, the freq applet is doing real time frequency outputs.
I first was beleiving it was a kernel issue: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1734542 but then using a 4.13.0-18-generic kernel, i see the kernel is really scaling as expected: cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor powersave cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_cur_freq 1186775 but the freq applet is only displaying the max rate: 3200 MHz, which is indeed wrong ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: gnome-shell-extension-system-monitor 33-1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.13.0-18.21-generic 4.13.13 Uname: Linux 4.13.0-18-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.8-0ubuntu2 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: GNOME Date: Sat Dec 2 09:42:14 2017 PackageArchitecture: all SourcePackage: gnome-shell-extension-system-monitor UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: gnome-shell-extension-system-monitor (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug bionic -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1735893 Title: Display only max cpu frequency with ubuntu kernels To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell-extension-system-monitor/+bug/1735893/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
