[Bug 45928] Re: High error rate on UMTS modem
I was tracking the bug by playing with the MTU for the point-to-point link (smaller packets -> higher probability for the packet to pass the lossy link), by watching the output of ifconfig and by switching kernels. Guess you have to put you hands on the source code for finding the bug (trying kernel.org version of 2.6.15+, 2.6.8; compare them); reported the bug here 'cause it is some kind of Ubuntu issue, but also because I do not care enough for fixing it/reporting it upstream to the right kernel hacker. >From the MAINTAINERS file: 8250/16?50 (AND CLONE UARTS) SERIAL DRIVER P: Russell King M: [EMAIL PROTECTED] L: linux-serial@vger.kernel.org W: http://serial.sourceforge.net S: Maintained -- High error rate on UMTS modem https://launchpad.net/bugs/45928 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 30333] Re: After upgrading from breezy, the system will not boot
Why do developers prefer to close their eyes on a bug like this rather than face it? Everyone who has upgraded from Breezy to Dapper find a myriad of bugs to deal with, including me. Myself, I cannot login anymore as a normal user, but only if I login as root from kdm/gdm (modfied the config to be able to do so). The funny thing, is that with kernel 2.6.12 from breezy I can login fine most of the time, but then I do not have sound working, even though the modules are installed and before the upgrade it worked. As for the bug mentioned here, I have heard a lot of people claiming that initrds are broken, and myself can confirm this. I cannot boot with 2.6.15, unless I create a new initrd with yaird instead of mkinitrd. [Bug 35601] Re: [X600] Black screen with DRI
This sounds a lot like bug #28925, about others, most of which have had more success using the radeon drivers, or getting the fglrx driver by apt-get install xorg-driver-fglrx (which is what I did, because I've had similar troubles with an X800). I would try that. I've noticed most of the ATI cards newer than the radeon 9600 don't work with the ATI driver, and I suspect the problem may be somehow linked. But that's just a suspicion. [Bug 14044] Re: Fullscreen display split between screens with Xinerama/MergedFB
the reason of this behavior is the lack of appropriate screen modes in xorg.conf - if only dual-head modes are defined, full screen-apps fail to change to an appropriate resolution. also using the "radeon" driver, the following MetaModes in xorg.conf should have the desired effect: Option "MetaModes" "1024x768-1024x768 1024x768 800x600 640x480" this defines one dualhead mode with two times 1024x768, yielding in 2048x768 resolution and three additional modes without any definition for the second screen. during switching to these modes, xorg switches on-the-fly to a clone mode with the requested resolution. starting of full-screen apps (like SDL-games) now automatically triggers switching to a clone mode - no more centering of full screen apps between both monitors. Therefore I don't think that this is a SDL problem but due to a non- optimal xorg configuration (at least not in dapper; could also be that the problem was fixed in the meantime). -- Fullscreen display split between screens with Xinerama/MergedFB https://launchpad.net/bugs/14044 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 50614] Re: Please update
You're out for item three on that list, I guess. I'm not sure that it actually holds in this case, as no program is supposed to be directly linked against libpam-heimdal, but it rather is dlopen()ed by the PAM libraries only when explicitly specified in /etc/pam.d/*, which isn't even the case after installing the libpam-heimdal package, but instead requires manual configuration. So, in my opinion libpam-heimdal is not a library in that case, but more like an application. Instead of going consequently on and filing a number of separate bug reports against libpam-heimdal, I decided to go the--at least for me-- much easier way: I just grabbed the sources from Debian testing, built them and installed. Worked flawlessly. -- Please update https://launchpad.net/bugs/50614 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 50662] Gnumeric status bar: sum of selected cells, with dates
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnumeric The gnumeric status bar includes a total of all selected cells, in the appropriate format (e.g. a selection of currency formatted cells will be shown with a currency symbol). Unfortunately, the standard spreadsheet convention of value is used, which includes dates being counted as numbers of days since some epoch or something. If you select two date cells, it shows you a meaningless total of these numbers as a date (meaningless since it depends on the value of the epoch). Worse, if you select e.g. several currency cells which happen to have a date in the middle of them, the value of the currency cells will be added to the date in some incredibly meaningless way, and shown as a new date. This should be fixed by treating date formatted cells as 0, in the same way strings are, for the purposes of this sum. ** Affects: gnumeric (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- Gnumeric status bar: sum of selected cells, with dates https://launchpad.net/bugs/50662 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 35174] Re: ThinkPad X60 cannot Resume from Suspend
Tested several times and it only happened once that the file /etc/network/interfaces was changed. However sometimes coming back from hibernate and sleep the NetworkManager has kind of problems. However, I think these problems might be related to the NetworkManager and not to Hibernate/sleep. And, all the network devices work properly when coming back to the session. I simply use the Network Menu to configure my wireless device. So for me I am happy that Sleep and Hibernate are working(until now all the time). Except the first time, maybe one has to reboot after upgrading acpi-support?(As Korny reported a failure for his first try too) So I repeat what I have done to get it working: -upgrade to acpi-support 0.85 - edit /boot/grub/menu.lst and add resume=/dev/sda4 as a bootparameter. /dev/sda4 should be your swap partition. Thanks to all who helped (me) get this to work properly:) -- ThinkPad X60 cannot Resume from Suspend https://launchpad.net/bugs/35174 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 50665] after dapper upgrade to 2.6.15-25 usb mass storage aren't mounted well

[Bug 50669] Evolution opens MicroSoft Office .doc files read only
Public bug reported: In Debian Sarge (OpenOffice.org 1.1.x) when someone opened a .doc file from an email in Evolution it would open in OpenOffice Read/write, and changes could be made to the page layout (letter-> a4 etc) before printing. In Ubuntu Dapper (OpenOffice.org 2.0.2, Evo 2.6) that no longer occurs. Docs now open read only. This makes some things (like changing paper format from US Letter to A4) a /lot/ more complex then it needs to be. If this could be fixed to open docs read/write and backported to Dapper it would rock :) ** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- Evolution opens MicroSoft Office .doc files read only https://launchpad.net/bugs/50669 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
