I like to use gtoaster. I tried to load it onto a new machine with dselect, only to
find that one of the dependencies, cdrdao, is now listed as obsolete.
What happens in this sort of case when there is a knock on effect?

both didn't work :( , also making a symlink from

Notice the dots. Place your script in /etc/init.d/ and the rest is
obvious. 0..6 are runlevels, XX and YY simply the order (SXX and KYY).

installed USB support and the USB mass-storage driver on a Debian system
using the 2.4.19 kernel. The USB stuff installs with no complaint at all.
I power up the Maxtor and boot the system but no new drives show up

time, following a kernel rebuild. I have realized that for lilo to
create the 'map' file correctly, it needs to find the file "System.map"
created at the time of kernel recompile. Now, with this file in /boot,

I downloaded the two files:
NVIDIA_GLX-1.0-4191.tar.gz
NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-4191.tar.gz
from the nVidia web-site:
http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?IO=linux_display_ia32_1.0-4191
then untarred them in my /usr/src directory and followed the
instructions

I run kde (3.1rc) as my desktop environment, but also use 2 gtk apps (gimp 1.3
and synaptic) both of which use GTK 2. Gimp picks up the theme settings and
uses the xft libraries to do antialiased fonts just fine. However synaptic
neither picks up the theme settings or uses xft unless i run one o
