For most windows you can store the layout of the windows. But AFAIK it
forgets about windows that do not auto open on startup.

However, if I mind: I use mainly your layout, that is the PGN window
left of the main window as a long list and the engines below. It works
pretty well in classic mode as all windows remember their sizes and
positions correctly and pop up again at the very position where I left
them. Probably this is an option for you as well. I've a similar problem
as you mention with the games list. CC window is also not that suitable
for docking as it has to display quite wide list of things as well.

For me, if the docking mode would be of any use I'd actually like to
have all windows pop up and then be able to dock them or have all
windows be docked and be able to undock them (only the latter works
btw.) Then each window should remember its docked/undocked state, size
and position. This does not work now.

Finally, IMHO this could result in some best of all worlds approach. But
as far as I got it all this docking isn't that easy at all. Also, I must
say that IMHO freely movable windows are much more comfortable and
easier to navigate compared to a huge fullscreen window covering
everything. (For Windows users I'd strongly suggest VirtuaWin to get
multiple desktops and some other things needed for a decent GUI.)
Besides that there's an issue with the focus. For Scid it is vitally
important which window has the focus, but in docked mode you only have
one window so you have to focus a tab and currently it is seldom clear
which tab has the focus.

I don't know if it is possible. Pascal did all the docking stuff, he's
the expert here. I still hope that classic mode doesn't get broken when
things are changed in window handling as I still feel it is much more
user friendly and flexible.
