Hi Rick,

On Wednesday, November 20, 2002, 8:35 PM, you put forth, in part, about "Pro$ Only!
RH8.0 and PHP Bug. [annoyance submission]":

R> As for Mr Burgiss's filters - they too are becoming an annoyance. If
R> you don't like it - delete it. Procmailing it by yourself is one thing
R> (and entirely private), but openly sharing the rules with the list is
R> more like covert retaliation to the offending sender than helping
R> others. If the e-mail is that offensive, take it offline and deal with
R> it personally.

It is only "covert retaliation" if we, individually, choose to utilize it.
I think that Hal's contribution to this group has been stellar, and right
on target, for a demonstrated long period of time. He certainly has
contributed tremendously to this list, as have several others, Tony, Ed,
and many others. You seem to forget that many users (new and old) thanked
him for his recipe to get rid of the latest vacation bounce, saving over
50 bounces, just as he has done in the past, last year if I remember
correctly. There is *nothing* wrong with openly sharing rules, in any
category, on this list, as that is what it is all about. As always it is
up to the user to make the final determination to use, or not use,
whatever is thrown up on the board. No one is forcing the user to use
Hal's, or anyone else's, recipe, code, or script. Hal's response, in my
opinion, was far less officious than the original poster. As far as I am
concerned, Hal you can send me recipes, scripts, whatever, whenever.

Make it idiot-proof and someone will make a better idiot.
