What did you add to the spec file besides:

--with-mhash=/path/to/lib/libmhash

Would you mind posting parts of the logs related to the issue?

Also - silly question - your php.ini file does point to the correct sendmail
location? I know Red Hat defaults it to "sendmail_path =
/usr/sbin/sendmail -t -i"
