FWIW, I normally run KRUD, but I am trying SuSE 7.3 since I haven't used SuSE for a
while, and I must say, they make it one whole *hell* of a lot easier to get up and
running, or at least they explain it a lot better. My gripe w/ the RedHat dns setup
as a newbie is that it uses bind 9, which may well be a better product than bind 4 or
bind 8, but for those of us who aren't very comfortable w/ mucking /w DNS, it's not as
documented at a Step-by-Step or HOWTO level... yet. Once the packages are installed
on SuSE, their excellent manual (Pro edition) basically walks you thru the setup.
Supposedly bind 9 is also available; I didn't try. My only problem was that the docs
didn't quite spell out to do the whitespacing so as to not give bind problems. So I
just copied one of their 192.168.100.zone sample config files, and edited as needed.
Worked like a champ. I'm not saying that bind 9 in RedHat (or djbdns) are not as
functional or more, or difficult to setup. Just a bit mo!
re difficult to puzzle out and get answers for at this stage
