Future RPMers make note of this and then use the -F option when
upgrading.  This quite possibly will bite you in the rear end someday as
you think, "Gee, I have all these updated rpms in this directory, and
some of them need to be installed. I think I'll just rpm -Uvh *"  you
will then then watch rpm INSTALL all the uninstalled packages as well as
UPGRADE the ones on your system. 

-F (freshen, go figure) does what I expected it to do, anyway.  But
then, If I had RTFM before hand I would not have filled up my small hard
drive on a small remote system.  It WAS a pretty drive any way.  I
forget all the crap I screwed up to get it to the point that I could no
longer login but it was not fun.

Just a tip from a person who often reads just enough to get started, I
admit it.
