 How would the upgrade succeed if all the rpm's have been removed? You'ld need 
-i instead of -U in this case.

> rpm -Uvh MySQL*rpm 

 I think this first * would include all needed packages, so you either have to 
be (one letter) more specific to get the rpm's installed in the correct order, 
or if the order doesn't matter - I think it does - this snipped line should 
suffice.
