You should edit /etc/lilo.conf as follow: boot = /dev/hda map=/boot/map install=/boot/boot.b prompt vga = normal read-only timeout = 500 other = /dev/hda1 label=dos table=/dev/hda Also there is a FAQ in RedHat site which gives you more description about the topic.
