OK, tell me this... if I were to pull my soundcard out of the system and
reboot, kudzu will remove the sound card entry from the hwconf file. Based
upon that assumption, if I put the card back into the system, kudzu will
find it and tell the user. What is unclear is what will happen next. Will
the user be given the option to run sndconfig at that point?

If a new sound card is installed after initial installation and kudzu finds
it and runs sndconfig for the user, why can't it do that during installation.
Or, as I mentioned, don't put anything in hwconf during installation, since
it never gets used to set anything up anyway. That way, when the system is
booted, kudzu will see the card and let you configure it.

But, think about that for a moment... if kudzu can find the PCI sound card
and let the user configure it after installation, why not just do it during
installation? The logic behind the sequence of events defies me.

If the kudzu program can get the job done looking for PCI devices and place
them into the hwconf file, why doesn't the installation process complete
the installation and configure the devices? Why should the user have to
get involved? It is a computer afterall and computers are supposed to be
our friend:-)

I'm sure you understand what I am getting at. If the system can find the
hardware, let it finish the installation.
