:Interesting, this tells me you are trying to have lilo work with a
:partition that is too big. The Linux boot partition can't be any bigger
:than 1024 cylinders AND has to be within the first 1024 cylinders of
:the hard disk. So, if you have the Linux boot starting at cylinder 512,
:the biggest the partition can be is 512, since it has to end at 1024.
:
:You previously gave the size of your partition, but you didn't say where
:the partition was on the disk.
:
:How about posting what you have the drive fdisk'd as, so that we can look
:it over and make suggestions.
I listed them in order; sorry not to mention it. I don't have that
machine here, but the failed setup was as follows:
hda1 /boot 100MB
hda2 WIN95 1GB
hda3 SWAP 128MB
hda4 extended partition
hda5 / 2GB
hda6 /usr remainder
I used Linux' fdisk utility and then copied the partitions from my other
drives. I do have three bootable kernels, one of which is in / which
may be the problem. I did reset my /etc/fstab and reconfigured lilo.conf.
I am by no means attached to the above partitioning. Tell me what will
work, and I will change it. I don't have a need to be unique.
I was considering making a 200MB / partition at hda1, followed by a 1GB
WIN95 partition, follows by SWAP, /usr and /var. If someone has a working
partitioning scheme on a 6.4GB disk, I'd love to use a tried and true
method. Thanks for all the input so far.
If I left anything out, let me know. I'll be happy to provide any info
to solve this.
Thanks again. Have a good day!
