I'm sorry I wasn't clear, but I did remove the old drives and install the
new one as /dev/hda before I tried to write to the MBR. The error I got
was:

#/mnt/sbin/lilo -r /mnt
Warning: device 0x0305 exceeds 1024 cylinder limit
geo_comp_addr: Cylinder number is too big (1249 > 1023)
#

I tried to run lilo while the drive wasn't primary too. It was hdd at
that point. I used the -r /mnt parameter, but I got the error I mention
above. Searching for this error on dejanews yielded an answer in what
I believe was Dutch.

I assume the problem is how I have the drive partitioned or that I haven't
specified the geometry or something like that, but I'm not sure which
thing I need to do. Is it likely that I need to specify the geometry?
Do I specify the numbers that my BIOS reports for LBA or what is printed
on the drive which is "hd=12555,16,63". I assume that this would go in
the append line of lilo.conf.

I'm only going to have one disk when I'm done since I want to use the
Ultra DMA feature and my old disks don't have it.

I wasn't able to make a boot floppy prior to switching the drives; it
appeared to be writing, but the disk was ignored during booting. Bios
is set to boot A: first and does with other disks.

I am not exactly a newbie (although you might not be able to tell from
this post), but this data transfer is stumping me. I have no problem
getting the data to the new drive, but lilo doesnt' like me.

Thanks for the response. Have a good day!
