The difference in effective focal length can, as pointed out, be a real cost driver. It can be even worse if, like me, your favorite zoom is a 28-105. A 19-70mm zoom would be needed with a 1.5x sensor multiplication. Of course, no one makes such a lens. If one tends to shoot long lenses, then the 1.5x is a bonus.
>From: Bruce Dayton <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> It is interesting to note that a good friend of mine who is in the Nikon system is strongly considering the new D100. He currently has the N80, Sigma 17-35/2.8-4, Nikon 28-105, Nikon 80-400 VR as a system. Because of the 1.5 magnification, he now is considering dropping 2 of 3 lenses and getting replacements that more nearly fit his current AOV set of lenses. I wonder how many of us, when actually faced with the buying proposition, wouldn't have a similar problem. It makes you wonder how deep into a system you really are when all the focal lengths shift like that. He could almost consider any brand now. Oh yeah, his SB28 flash won't work in TTL mode with the new body either. That means he has to get a new flash also. Those of you who are waiting for the Pentax digital because of existing lenses may want to examine if you really would want to use them or would seek a different set of focal lengths like my friend. You may end up buying a new system whether it is Pentax or another anyway. Bruce - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List.
