Interesting. I also used an S1a for 15 years until a Coke spill finished
it off. I replaced the body with a Praktica MTL5B which worked like a
Spotmatic at a fraction of the price & allowed me to continue using my
M42 lenses.

All UI's are the brainchild of people who have spent too long at it and trying
to make it do everything, so it does

I've done some adequate work with an early S-1a[0] and later a K-1000, both of
which require that I participate fully in making the shots. I can even
perpetrate fun with the Holga or the Diana. My K-10d works well enough, but
unless I'm snapshotting with it, I go mostly manual with exposure and focus. I
do regret not having acquired the Auto-110 which was for a time available; I'd
seen just how good decent optics could render on such a small format.
