I don't think mirrorless is that product.
I do. As I see it, mirrorless will replace (D)SLRs much as SLRs
replaced rangefinders some decades back. Of course, just as there are
people using rangefinders today & getting fine pictures with them,
there will no doubt be diehards using DSLRs in 2080.
It would be hard for Pentax to compete in the part of the mirrorless
market that most obviously has a future, full-frame. Canon & Nikon are
well established, & the L-mount Alliance (Panasonic, Leica & Sigma)
will be a player. Maybe, though. Pentax had the only mirrorless so far
without a new lens mount; the K-01 took standard K-mount lenses, a
huge advantage both to the shooter & to the manufacturer. It failed to
sell, I think mainly because it lacked a viewfinder. Would a K-02 with
a full-frame sensor & a viewfinder sell? Would it offer any real
advantage over current Pentax models? (I doubt it)
I don't know. I do know that I can't really use any camera without a viewfinder.
My arms are not steady enough and I can't focus on the little TV screen on the
back while hand holding it.
I can use Live View on the K-1 when I have it mounted on the tripod, but off of
the tripod I have to be able to hold the viewfinder up to my eye to see anything.
