That's not the point.  The standardisation meant that you didn't have to buy
a new charger every time you bought a new phone. 

USB chargers mostly solved that problem, too - I can charge my 2019 phone
using the same USB charger I bought almost 10 years ago with the previous
phone (with a new cable or adapter).  Of course it doesn't charge as fast
as the latest charger can, and it's not wireless charging, but it works.
