I'm looking forward to comparing these two lenses, since I currently
have both. (I'll share the results with the class).
I agree from everything that I have seen and read that the Tamron wins
the "bang for the buck" race and I was quite happy to have found one
for $100 a few weeks ago (without 1:1 converter or tube). However,
when the Series 1 with matching Series 1 1:1 teleconverter showed up
on Omaha's Craigslist (on a week that I was making a trip there) after
wetting my pants I *had* to inquire. The seller didn't even state what
mount the lens fit in his ad, but it turned out to be a K-mount. (I
then soiled my pants.)

I have to admit that my first impressions are that the WAY the Series
1 goes out-of-focus (depth of field) on macro is especially
"dreamy-looking". Have not tried it in portrait mode yet. In fact, I
still need to figure out how to get the 1:1 macro adapter off the
lens! (Fortunately, I did get the original Series 1 manual, but left
it home today.)
