He had the 500mm priced at $650, I think. But not against dealing.
I believe a local guy was coming to look at it later Saturday morning,
but no idea if he bought it or was just kicking tires.

On the basis that I almost always use my bigma at 500 and manual focus, and this lens is almost two stops faster, it sounds like if it's available (could you send me his email address?), it might be good for me to sell my bigma to get it.

Anybody with experience with both lenses want to comment?

I own the 500 4.5. Some of the NorCal guys have seen me use it at gatherings (in particular the SF meet where we shot the Blue Angels). It's not very sharp wide open, or even stopped down a little. I've found its best performance is at f11, and it doesn't do too well on digital at any other aperture. Lots of chromatic abberation. It's possible that these problems are just in my lens (which is in very good shape, as far as I can tell from the outside), but I have never seen another copy to test. If you get it, I'd be interested in doing a comparison some day.

I read some reviews on the web, and most seem to think it's pretty sharp, and that it's biggest vice is CA.

Though it looks like it doesn't automatically stop down, which would be a real pain.
