I used the Super Multi Coated Takumar version of lens for about a
week, as I bought it on the local Craigslist for a friend who lives
out of state. Purple Fringing can be very bad, and it's not very sharp
(at least on digital). Being a preset lens also makes it hard to
handle as you have to focus wide open, then close down the lens, all
the while making sure it doesn't fall off the tripod.

I paid $300 for the copy I tested, although it was not in mint
condition by any stretch. Given its optical performance, I wouldn't
pay $650 for it, mint or not.

None of this means you can't get decent pictures with it, it's just
more work in post processing using judicious sharpening.

I wonder if the "lens correction" module in Adobe Camera Raw would be appropriate with this lens? It has a Chromatic Aberration setting for adjusting Red/Cyan fringing.

[may also be in Lightroom; I just don't know]

And, I think you can save it as a preset you could automatically apply to other images taken with the same lens ... although I'd have to RTFM to figure out how to do it.

Last time I saw one of these for sale, $650 was the asking price. I couldn't afford it.
