Well, true...But it was more about money invested that could be used directly 
for the final purpose. Imagine that we spend $200 (adding all the shipments) 
and we sell the book for $195...Financially it would be better to just devote 
the 200$ for the charity...
But I admit that it is way more 'boring' than the signatures thing (and maybe I 
am underestimating the potential selling price).
So it is OK for me if we decide to go.

Well, yes but, answering myself after a bit more thinking...this can always be 
done on an individual basis. Nothing prevents any of us from buying a copy and 
sending it wherever we consider.
However, as I said before, doing things collectively is way more fun.
