OK, resets. I had a stubborn and obstinate SGI Onyx that, when I logged in as root and used the 'reboot' command, politely declined. I was the only one in the facility, I knew I was 'alone' on that machine. No matter what I tried, the system informed me it liked me a lot, but wasn't going to reboot. OK, 'halt'. "I'm sorry Dave..." Wait, my name isn't even Dave!
Aha! There's the 3-phase twist-lock power cable. I shook my fist, spoke a few choice words and tried to reboot again. After the final refusal it was twist, pull. How amazingly compliant the machine was when I powered it back on! I recall I rebooted it twice, just to prove manliness and courage and to assert total domination. I promise, I've only done that once. At least only once to that server. On Mon, Aug 4, 2014 at 5:09 PM, John F.
