Thanks for the replies to my query about Pages. I also reviewed the discussions on Apple site

and it seems it has some teething troubles as a Version 1 altho many people find it satisfactory. A recent update has been largely panned. There are Word/http transfer problems.
While I'm interested in it for doing a small book I haven't seen any response from anyone who has used it for this but it sounds usable.
I'm going to wait for V2 and see what improvement that brings.
