--- Comment #109 from toon.peperm...@hotmail.com ---
I cheered too soon, when I used the 'EveningGlow' wallpaper, I immediately got
an icons+wallpaper reset. This was with folder thubmnails enabled in Dolphin,
but also when I disabled it, I got the bug back.
But: when I disable folder thumbnails both in Dolphin and in the desktop
settings, the bug seems gone. Maybe this can be connected to Valdo's remark in
comment 54: "2nd subsection ("screenMapping=") references a very long list of
files stored in sub-sub-subfolders of my desktop." I remarked this also when
looking at the plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc file. This may be the
directorythumbnail plugin looking at those subfolders...
I'm still not able to reproduce this on my 'test' user. The only reason I can
invent is this: I have two folders (in fact: symlinks to folders on data
partition) on my desktop with a lot of subfolders, but they are owned by
'myself' and not by 'test', so 'test' doesn't have full access to them.

But now there's another problem: using 'EveningGlow' as wallpaper, after a few
tries this setting to not show folder thumbnails gets reset, combined with a
wallpaper and icons reset at the same time.
I tried to totally disable thumbnails in the desktop settings, but eventually
this also got reset.
I then tried to totally disable thumbnails also in Dolphin, but again the
desktop thumbnails settings got reset, not the Dolphin ones though.

After a lot of trying I also got an icons reset using 'Autumn 5.5' as
wallpaper, so it doesn't totally prevent the bug. I retried the experiment with
my monochrome wallpapers, to see if I had just invented this thing about
wallpaper color. I tried logout-login with the yellow wallpaper 15 times: no
bug. I did the same thing with the blue wallpaper 10 times: also no bug. But
then I thought: maybe it does make a difference whether you relogin or reboot.
So I tried 7 reboots with the yellow wallpaper: no bug. But the first time I
rebooted with the blue wallpaper: bug. And when I then did logout-login with
the blue one the bug happened again after 4 or 5 tries. So I still think the
color does make a difference.

But given the fact that I never had this bug on my 'test' user, there has to be
a relevant difference in settings somewhere, right?
What didn't work in any case was removing

[DesktopIcons]
Size=48

from both .config/kdeglobals and .kde/share/config/kdeglobals
Any other suggestions where the difference might be?
