As for the "get involved rant", it's simply the reality: in the FOSS world, if you want something done, your options are to get involved, or wait for someone else to do it. If you choose the latter option, it would be polite to respect those people's efforts by not insulting them or their work. If you want to draw attention to an issue that needs work, great!
