Review Comment:
   Where are safety checks to avoid this when integer vectors are not 
supported? For integer vectors, we always need such checks to avoid massive 
performance traps where things get 30x slower.  Check benchmark with 
`-XX:UseAVX=0`/-XX:UseAVX=1  to make sure the safety works
