Presumably they could be improved to provide the behavior you desire.
Golang ended up doing exactly that with the 'net.LookupTXT' function.

So, depending on the tools one uses, TXT records may already be 'de
facto UTF-8' in some scenarios.
I still welcome further discussion on whether certain recommendations in
this regard make sense, perhaps in the hallway or at a bar.
