What device did the T-Mobile salesman sell you? Is it the TMO_G4AR?

I forget what you may have said about your computer, but I gave my computers
static addresses in the 192.168.12 subnet (it was a pain to change some of
those computers and other devices). I set the gateway and first DNS to be
192.168.12.1 (and the 2nd, for now, to be 8.8.8.8) and I have Internet
connectivity.

I suppose you could use the USB interface on the TMO-G4AR, but it also has two
Ethernet interfaces (RJ-45 or whatever the 8 pin version of that is) -- I'm
using one of them. I still have the WiFi on, but nothing uses it (at least
not on a regular basis, and will turn it off "real soon now").

PS: If you don't have the TMO-G4AR, I'd look into exchanging whatever device
they did "sell" you for the TMO-G4AR.

Aside: I'm not really sure that T-Mobile really sells the TMO-G4AR, it's more
like you pay $50 a month (with a $5/month discount for autopay) (for the
lowest tier of service, which surprising to me, displays football games with
great clarity) (and that rate is guaranteed for 5 years) and that includes
use of the TMO-G4AR on sort of a rental basis -- I haven't read all the terms
and conditions (I'm still in the middle of a two week free trial), but I
assume that if I cancel the service I have to return the equipment.

(If you have a T-Mobile cell phone with a monthly fee you can get better
discounts -- I have a T-Mobile grandfathered pay-as-you-go plan which doesn't
qualify for the additional discounts).
