I want to second this idea. I am very open to any and all collaboration, even
from someone who just wants to contribute one item and not be involved in the
future. But, please, please, coordinate first.

Even for team maintained packages, I feel that coordination should happen
first with those listed as uploaders. I always do so when uploading other
people’s packages as a team member and I enjoy it when others do the same for
packages where I am listed as an uploader. This prevents an enormous amount
of problems, especially those that might affect related packages.

Of course, if the uploaders are unresponsive for a period of time appropriate
for the severity of the issue being addressed by the upload, then it is
totally appropriate for someone else to go ahead and perform a team upload or
an NMU.
