I understand that it’s frustrating when you feel your effort isn’t fully recognized or valued. I want to reassure you: your contributions are appreciated. I believe many of us see and respect the dedication behind your work, even if we sometimes fail to express it clearly.Sorry, but these are empty words. Letting something be for 20 years and then using the community and release team hammers on me after 2 years of work is a power abuse (and the opposite of welcoming community). If it had to be done it had to be done immediately when I adopted the package or before. Now it's too late.I think that we old farts need to accept that the world has changed and the project has changed and that things that used to be okay 20, maybe even 10 years ago are not ok any more. Love it or leave it.
As an old(-ish) fart, I respect that world, our standards and how we treat people changes. I also look back and feel bad about myself, too.
However, I believe in kindness, and doing your homework first, too. If there needs to be change, bullying the package maintainer during a freeze with vague reports and rude language is not the way to go. They would have done their homework, written a nice e-mail about what fortunes are really offending, and work together to make plan for removing them with proper depreciation.
I don't believe Salvo is angry about how his package is "not wanted here" anymore, but how the process is handled in the first place.
Personally, I believe offensive content up to a certain bar can remain (and shall be available) as long as it's not installed as automatically in any case, so people can install/uninstall these things voluntarily.
This bar is up to discussion, and can be discussed publicly or privately per package with their maintainers and concerned parties. My bar doesn't include any derogatory, ethnic, sexist, genocidal and fascist jokes for example, but I have a relatively thick skin due to being well-roasted in flame wars of old internet.
What I try to say is, this is a delicate issue and we should approach it kindly, and shouldn't point black and white fingers to anyone, under any circumstance.
Greetings Marc
