Hi: I did contact the supplier before all this, and he said that he tested each CD, DVD this time prior to shipping, and they worked fine. He sent me a new set of them, because he guaranteed them. When I used them to upgrade from 7.10 to 8.04 they were read, and everything about reading them, worked in 7.10 at first. Then after doing all the upgrades in 7.10 it did not work anymore, and I abandoned trying to do an upgrade over top of 7.10, to 8.04. I bought a new DVD Burner, because I suspected that there was something wrong with the older one. It burned fine, played CD, CD Avi's DVD Movies just fine. After posting the detailed description, of the problem, I tried it with the Install CD which came from him, now that will not read in 8.04 either, it used to before I did all the upgrades. I've included the Pictures, of the screen Dialog boxes. I read on the web that other people that bought repositories on DVD or CD ran into this problem too. I put Ubuntu 8.04 on a Pentium 3 in the last 3 weeks it had this problem too.
The first Picture is the software sources in Synaptic, or Software sources, Repositories, in Software sources, either way of doing this creates this problem. When Third Party Software TAB is arrived at, ADD CD is pressed, it asks you to insert the CD. When you insert the CD, then press OK, on that dialog box, right away the next dialog box comes up, and it says E: Could not mount CD. If I wait until the CD / DVD is recognized, and read a bit and do this, it still comes up with E: Could not mount CD, as soon as the OK Button is pressed in the Insert CD Dialog Box. You can see that the CD/DVD is mounted on the desktop, and that a file browser for it is opened on the desktop, but in Synaptic it says it can not mound the CD. I took a screen shot of the File Browser, for the CD, to show you that there are Package files on it. ** Attachment added: "The first Screen shot that says insert CD." http://launchpadlibrarian.net/15847738/Screenshot1.png -- Synaptic add cd does not work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/243866 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
