I like Gabriel's idea. I totally get that the 470 driver is very old, that nvidia is no longer maintaining it, and that patching it brings diminishing returns for Ubuntu as fewer and fewer people use it.
However, it would have been nice to receive a "it looks like this kernel isn't compatible with your xxxx driver, do you still want to update" warning before accepting this kernel update rather than unexpectedly losing half a day's work while I tried to figure out the problem and get everything working again. This is particularly true when a release like this goes out in the middle of an LTS cycle. If I were upgrading the OS, I would boot to a live image first to check for issues like this before committing, but I'm generally not going to do this for what seems like a routine mid- cycle kernel update. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2110338 Title: Nvidia 470/470-server fails to build on kernel 6.14 HWE To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-470/+bug/2110338/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
