It is clearly not a mrv2 bug.  The performance hit between 550 and 570 
is clearly an NVidia issue.

Here's two movies with the same binaries:

550 drivers X11 - excellent 60 FPS:

What I think might be an Ubuntu issue is the hit on Wayland, even with 
the good performing 550 drivers:
