I apologize for calling it an *UBUNTU* bug. Ubuntu is not to blame specifically as the problem also appears under Rocky Linux. Both running under Gnome/Mutter, which is really what I meant by calling it an Ubuntu bug. What I meant about Ubuntu, thou, is that you guys are now bundling a driver that is 50% and soon enough 80% slower. Moving to the upcoming Ubuntu 23+, we will have a real issue. weston performs terrible -- even worse than the current Gnome. I tried Sway but it is also broken in the Ubuntu 24.04.2 repositories too. I can probably get someone to test it under Plasma if you want and get back to you (I could bother myself, but I cannot stand all the Qt bloated libraries).
Regarding NVidia... I *already* reported the problem. Is is an issue with their *Linux* *Vulkan* drivers which have gotten worse on each release, achieving a whopping 80% drop in frame rate on the new 575 drivers. Compared that to a 50% drop in 570. On Nvidia forums the problem has also been reported by several users -- some even running a brand new RTX 5090, instead of my old RTX 3080. That's why I still have not bothered to upgrade. NVidia's Windows drivers do not suffer from this performance hit under Vulkan. My application performs flawlessly on Windows 11 Pro. MacOS MoltenVK under AMD graphic cards on Intel also does not suffer from this. NVidia has 83%+ of the market share of graphic cards, so finding users with AMD or Intel graphic cards is hard. Working with the Ubuntu team, you are more likely to know someone that has one than myself. Since GNOME/Mutter will require 575+ drivers for HDR this is really problematic for my application and for any user/company requiring those features. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2114234 Title: Vulkan performance under Wayland/X11 and NVidia drivers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-570/+bug/2114234/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
