: I don't think Hoss wants to be involved in the logo contest beyond the : guidance he gave ;)
I want to be involved in so much as i want to make sure things are done in a fair way that has well defined guidelines and boundaries and engages the community ... i have less interest in what the actual logo is. : What is there now is really a template I stole from other logo contests. It : hasn't really been blessed or finished. For instance, the contest end date : should be decided upon. No committer has even really endorsed running the : contest - not a big deal, but I think it means things are not yet official. : Agreeing that the current rules are fine and deciding on an end date would : seem to remedy that. I endorse running a contest -- after 1.3 goes out and people have some more energy to focus on it, and after some more details are spelled out (i've added some TODO notes to the wiki) : As far as getting other interest beyond the developers, once the contest is : blessed, I'd be happy to try and spread the word. I don't predict it will do It might if we offered some prizes (i notice that Shale seems to have had some) and at a minimum we should encourage submissions form [EMAIL PROTECTED] and [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- not just the Solr list. But as you said: let's not evangilize a contest untill we've got some concesus on how we're running it and what the dates are. I agree: we've already got some good ideas, but let's not rush into something. i'd rather get it right this time so we don't have a "let change the logo" thread every few years. : If people see clear concrete steps ahead that I can help with, just let me : know. If you're volunteering then i would suggest seeing if you can dig up some info on how to go about getting some prizes funded (if not cash, then maybe general apache swag or Solr t-shirts with the new logo) ... if for some reason it's off the table for the ASF then i'll kick in some cash and some CNET swag (with the old "vintage" logo, that's now a collectors item ... or so i keep telling myself) and flesh out some more "process" details on the wiki so there's a bit more for people to disscuss (once 1.3 is baked) -Hoss
