With Hardy I haven't had any sound problem since using the fix I
commented on above.
As to Intrepid I tested the live-cd for Intrepid alpha4 and the sound
worked fine so I'll asume there were no snd-hda-intel unknown symbols.

Using gconf-editor, the entry for
/desktop/gnome/thumbnailers/applicat...@pdf has no keys. This is also
true for any other thumbnailer for pdf, postscript, or dvi. These file-

If I use the hotkeys (Fn + up/down) I only get 4 steps.
If I use the "Power Manager Brightness Applet" there are 8 brightness
levels. However it takes 100 clicks on the + and - buttons to get from

I've discovered that the powerpc-smp image does not have the problem,
audio plays fine. I have been using vmlinux-2.6.22-14-powerpc-smp with
no audio problems.

Actually you can login. But it seems that the font/text is 'invisible.'
Try blindly logging in. Type in your user name and return. Type in
password and return. You should see the cursor move down several lines
as you login.

I think a lot of us have NM installed, whether or not we need or want it
installed because ubuntu-desktop depends on it. This problem becomes more and
more annoying as more programs check dbus for the network status as set by NM.

If I edit /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/init-top/plymouth from
"/sbin/plymouthd --mode
At one point I found that I had mistakenly set Plymouth to use the text
splash rather than a graphic one resulting in not seeing/noticing
Plymouth during boot. Switching back to a graphic one, ubuntu-logo, I
was able to see the screen.
