Thank you for the quick reply. I'm running VMware over windows. I'm using
the default audio backend. This issue wasn't there with previous instanced
of Ubuntu I've used in VMware. I've reinstalled another instance of Ubuntu
on VMware and there's less Audio chopping, but it's still there

I'm so sorry for your suffering with this annoying bug.
As much as I know, it's caused because Synaptics people didn't announce their
protocol to handle this device's events, thus kernel can't really handle it.
Anyway, please help me to figure out if it's really the case in your mac
