Above fix let me connect to hidden open and WPA networks.
I tried switching between wired, WPA and open with a mix of hidden and open
network without seeing any problem.
I'm using it for a couple of hour now and didn't see any regression from
current gutsy yet.

username.
Another would be to only allow ascii characters for the usernames but that's
