Public bug reported:
Every time I logout the fact that I had set Visual Effects to Normal is
forgotten. This means everytime I login there is no window manager
started. I had hoped the upgrade from Jaunty to Karmic would cure this
but it hasn't.
Is there any way to force the system to remember

I am not sure that this is a duplicate of Bug 390001. That bug appears
to be about rebooting not per session. However I have put an entry in
that bug report to move things along.

I just reported Bug 482539 but it has been marked as a duplicate of this
bug.
I am not sure that it is but . . .
I had Jaunty installed and decided to switch from "No visual effects"
(Metacity) to "Normal visual effects" (Compiz) after this change
Metacity never worked again despite being instal
The workaround for this is well known but is not really explained
anywhere in any one place; there are comments on all the bugs related to
this one (especially 354588) and also in the Ubuntu forums. What is
comes down to is the ordering of startup of NIS and NetworkManager. If

I can confirm that lp:me-tv when compiled works fine as long as you
delete ~/.local/share/me-tv/me-tv.db first and recreate all the channel
information. I am having a small difficulty with the fact that the
channel list generated during GNOME DVB setup appears not to be a well-
formed XML document
There has been a lot of work on KRoC, it is just that they have moved to
a Continuous Delivery approach rather than a fixed release approach. So
to characterize the request as invalid since the last supposed release
was 2006 is unfair. The release is now whatever is HEAD in Subversion
and the Git
Further research indicates:

Is managing the tarball generation from the Subversion/Git tags for
people who cannot use Subversion or Git to get the tagged "releases".
Thus the last release in your terms is actually 2013-04-28 not
2006-01-14.
OK so the team should be more
I think closing this bug is entirely the right thing to do. Much water
has flowed under the bridge since this reports was relevant to the world

Public bug reported:
I am using a build of Me-TV from a branch of the mainline branch on
Debian Unstable. --version reports 1.4.0.9. I use GNOME3 Shell.
Television is playing fine now that I have managed to get a correct
channel file after the UK DSO and hence massive channel rearrangement.

Calling org.gnome.SessionManager.Inhibit on org.gnome.SessionManager
does indeed appear to stop the locking screen appearing on GNOME3 with
GNOME Shell.

I am working with a fork of the 1.3.7 codebase. The current code for
attempting to inhibit screen save/screen lock is some low level dbus C
code. I am looking to replace this with C++ Gio::DBus code given this is
supposed to be a C++ application :-)
I am using GNOME Shell so the current org.gnome.
Does the fix go to Debian as well as Ubuntu? I mention this as the
Debian freeze for the next release is in about 2 weeks so it would be
good to get a new package in sooner rather than later.

1.3.7 made it to Debian Unstable this afternoon, hopefully it gets into
