I can confirm that using Eclipse Luna v4.4 on Ubuntu 14.04 this doesn't
happen anymore. For older Eclipse versions (e.g. 3.7.2) the
-Dorg.eclipse.swt.browser.DefaultType=mozilla works for me.

Confirming - I'm seeing the same, with redshift 1.7. As others have said
above, confirming that I was also able to workaround the clearly
missing dependency via manually doing:
sudo apt-get install geoclue-hostip
Still using 1.7 instead of 1.8 as that's the vesion

I can reproduce a crashing JVM when developing Eclipse plug-ins.
I can't share the workspace / code, but in addition to the usual
hs_err_pid*.log could share 1 GB core dump file if anybody is here to
debug this further, and I'm willing to try fixes to confirm if it
resolves
Happens occasionally (every couple of days) for me too, but no clear
steps to reproduce (contrary to Bug 1056238 which I can repro).

I'm on 12.04 and have hit this too, BUT in my case it "just" appears to
be a very slow apport... due to a JVM crash, on a 8 GB workstation,
after what seemed like a long time (several minutes, with an SSD) of
