The solution for me was acpi=off!

I too confirm this problem on Hardy 8.04 with all updates as of today.
I am using vmware server 1 (running Windows XP in it). Within vmware,
everything is fine.
My guess is that this bug is somehow vmware related, but it also has to
do with Ubuntu 8.04 or its components (X, Gnome, Compiz?). I use
This bug appears not only affect in the case you insert a SD or CF card.
It also applies to all cameras which behave as storage device (not PTP).
Attaching such cameras (in my case: Casio Exilim Z600) gets you into the

the mainboard supports two network interfaces
(a) standard ethernet (eth0, Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd.

(b) ethernet via usb
I can confirm this bug. Applies to both Ubuntu 6.10 and Ubuntu 7.04
testing (as of Feb. 1st 2007).

I have deactivated the screensaver in gnome-screensaver-preferences,
and I also set 'Put display to sleep' to 'Never' in gnome-power-preferences
still, the monitor is switched off after a while (some minutes) without

In test 3, libata still seems to be active (dmesg | grep libata --> libata
version 2.0 loaded), but my IDE disks have /dev/hd device names.

thanks a lot for your work, but unfortunately I can't see any changes;
still searches for drivers and asks me to activate a manufacture-
supplied PPD driver (out of a long, unsorted list) before I can select
the driver I actually want to use

Thanks a lot! I guess this is the first time I got a patch prepared
personally for me :-)
It works much better now. jockey presents only the Kyocera driver, so no
more problems with sorting ... good!
After I activate this driver, it is automatically selected, thus
skipping the dialogs for driver
it was an installation without proposed enabled, sorry; I will retest
later on another installation

tested again on a clean Lucid installation plus all proposed updates
plus patch from above; works perfectly now, better than before (Karmic):
