* My system doesn't have a SSD
* X was not strace-able, when I tried, the system froze.
* The system has an Intel graphics adapter as well, but it is not used.
* It happens, when using latest fglrx. As soon as I realized that, I switched
to (non 3D-accelerated :( ) radeon driver
I had the same issue and it was related to some packages held back by
aptitude. I ran "aptitude safe-upgrade" and it works again. fstab-decode
was missing, therefor not unmounting the filesystems correctly. It's not
a bug.

gnome-keyring-daemon does not export SSH_AUTH_SOCK here at all. I
already disabled ssh-agent in Xsession.options and after that also
disabled it in xinitrc, which was trying to start it as well. After
that, when there was no ssh-agent interfering with gnome-keyring-daemon,
SSH_AUTH_SOCK was not set
I'm not sure I understand 100% of what Steve explained. But if it was
fixed in Karmic before (as it was here) and is broken now (as it is here
as well), then I can't see why we aren't able to rebreak it so it works
again. :)

I killed pulseaudio and ran "PULSE_NO_SIMD=1 pulseaudio -" from the shell
which fixed the problem. Then i ran "pulseaudio -" without the variable
being set and the problem was still gone. Then i ran pulseaudio & from another
shell and still everything works.

I just found, that gnome-settings-daemon was running on my system and
that killing it got me rid of that issue. However I still think xfce4
-power-manager-settings should have told me that there was an issue with
the configuration. Also, when starting gnome-settings-daemon on the
command line and w

bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=650086) that you can manually adjust the time
after which the backlight gets dimmed with the following command:
gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power idle-dim-time

For me the issue has not occurred since I upgraded to oneiric. As I do
not run other natty systems, we can close the bug. What about the
others?
Upstream doesn't seem willing to take on this one.

The applet appears, but doesn't react to mouse clicks. Configuring it
through the bar's properties dialog doesn't fix it. As a work around I
installed the gnome timer applet via xfapplet.

After adding the timer applet, a small rectangular space appears (see
attachment). After that, it justs sits there and occupies space without
showing any reaction to clicking (either left or right button). Thus it
is totally unusable and I'm not even sure what to expect. No menu ever
pops up.

Indeed that is the issue. What's the purpose of the icon itself, if it
doesn't change and cannot be clicked?

to indicate the time which has already passed. I second, that the bar
