I was finally able to boot my laptop with live CD Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit
2010 Mar. 3, by going to F6 (options) and turning off the first three
options. My USB started working. This is of course a work around, but
I have not been able to get usb to work at all with Ubuntu 9.10.

I have a similar issue with the banshee and firestarter icon backgrounds
not matching the ambiance or radience themes, but being fine under the
other themes. Also the font for the drop-down list for skype icon seems
to colour itself the same colour as the theme, making it impossible to

I found that I could boot with either 9.10 64 bit or 10.04 64 bit using
acpi=off. I believe that the actual problem is with Insyde H20 bios,
but I am guessing that you know this already. I have checked and there
is no update for the BIOS from the *Toshiba support website.

1. use BIOS to set controller mode to IDE
2. boot from live CD
3. use synaptic to completelty uninstall all dmraid related packages
4. run ubiquity

Upgrading from 9.4 to 9.1 has messed up my dual boot. Just discovered
cannot boot my XP install on this machine the suggestion to edit
/etc/default/grub does not work for me no such file exists to edit.
Also when creating an upgrade that changes something as fundamental as
how the machine boots to
AGPSize did not help me, nor turning off all effects. Video card worked
well with 9.04. Fresh install of 9.10 resulted in a max resolution of

Upgraded 9.04 to 9.10 via Synaptic and recieved the same error message,
"root filesystem fails to mount". Was able to solve the issue by
entering root passwd, change directory to /etc, make backup copy of
fstab. When I edited fstab I noticed my root partition was mounted as
my storage drive. By

I also have similar issues while booted off the 9.10 Beta Desktop CD
(x86, on a Dell Inspiron E1505N) - 'Format' button does nothing, and the
'Make Startup Disk' button is greyed out/unclickable.
