Hello all - I've experienced this problem also. I forked my sudoers file
(didn't use visudo to edit it) so I had to boot into recovery mode to
edit it. As soon as I ran visudo the system hard locked and had to be
shut down. Upon next bootup /etc/sudoers was a 0B file.

I've got exactly the same problem as unimatrix. Hanging at 50% when
installing 8.10 64-bit in VirtualBox. The network indicator is flashing
for quite a while at the start of the "Scanning the mirror" phase but
stops when it hits 50%. Using the Australian time zone.

Just started using Ubuntu and I had to go looking for why the server
constantly locked on rm commands.
This happens pretty much 100% of the time in my ext4 filesystems that
are large (100gb 60%+ full). I cannot delete more than 20-30 files

Found where the dependency problem is. The version of util-linux in
gutsy replaces the linux32 package. Thus, the solution would be to
remove linux32 as a dependency and add util-linux as a dependency, for
the nspluginwrapper package. This would explain why nspluginwrapper
works when the linux32

I wouldn't say that it's "massively deficient", but it does have several
serious bugs. Could you be more specific, e.g.
1) Which operations do you think are slow?
2) Would you be able to describe any more specific test cases? Several problems
are already known.
3) How could it be easier to use? W

Importance:
I'm seeing similar things here. I can't raise the volume about 40%
here. I opened Kmix and watched it while I raised and lowered the
volume with the hotkeys. It seems it's adjusting the Treble control
along with the master volume (although it's adjusting the Treble at a
different ratio than the
"3d control - depth" is probably just some feature of your
soundcard/driver that is supposed to give sound output more of a
"surround sound" effect.
